Love it so much -- I ordered 3 of them.
I ordered 3 of these printers, 1 for a friend of mine and 2 for myself. I have a shipping room in my home and I sell items on eBay. I use one printer to print out the invoices and the other to print out my labels for the package. When I set up the printers, I named them INVOICE and the other LABELS. So this way, I knew which printer I was sending which item to. They work just like a charm. No biggie that you have to turn them on -- stand up and click on and you are in business. I put shelves on my wall and put both printers up there and fill them with what they need and I am off and running. I got a USB hub and a 12 plug surge protector and put them on the bottom of shelf and I print and do everything right from my lap top. What a breeze it is to get an item ready for shipment. The price of the cartridges are nominal and for the price of the printer, you can't go wrong. Less than $13 for black and less than $20 for color and you can get both for like $30 bucks. This is just a printer, NOT a scanner, copier, phone or anything else, just a printer. You will need a printer cord unless you have one from your previous printer. If you don't they are inexpensive enough to get. Great printer and you won't be sorry on this purchase.

WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND 10 stars!!!!!
Oh my gosh! I LOVE THIS PRINTER! It's literally perfect for me. It comes with an full ink cartridges. FULL!! I still haven't had to buy new ones. It's really great for college kids like me. Nothing overly fancy, it's just a printer. And damn nice one too. Super easy setup, super ease of use. Would definitely recommend hands down. If you're just looking for a great quality no nonsense PRINTER, (not those scanner, fax, waffle making, Hubble telescope combination nightmares) this is definitely your guy. Great ship speed, and honestly a great deal. Printer is way more expensive from hp. Still a good value but from here it's the best deal you can get, again college kid on a budget here.

if you don't need bells and whistles
this inexpensive printer is adequate for most straight up printing. if you aren't doing pro work, you probably don't need an expensive machine, or even an all in one. my last printer cost six times the price of this one. the only part of it that works is the scanner, so i have one of those. unfortunately, the world has shifted the cost of printing to US, so it is sort of necessary to have a printer. it is not a fun thing. they break, and the ink is the true cost. why buy something costly that's gonna break with in 2 years. this little baby is faster and quieter than my now exclusively a scanner machine, and it costs like what a replacement ink supply would cost. the software is simple and just prints without all kinds of crap. 5 stars, so far.

Decent affordable printer
This printer so far works well for the moderate amount of printing that I will be using it for.(strictly at home personal use) Of course the true test for a product as inexpensive as this will be the test of time. Come back a year later and we will really know how well it holds up. I intend to follow all the recommended maintenence procedures which will be spelled out to the buyer once you download the software into your computer. These products no longer come with a hardcopy manual which is still irritating to me. Overall I am satisfied at this point.

Second version of this basic printer
Got the HP 1000 from Walmart on a closeout a few months back. My husband wanted one too so I was glad to see this model on special a few weeks ago..When we got the unit I took the new one and gave husband my old one, mainly because I print a lot more than he does. **READ THIS** Do NOT install the USB cord connecting the printer to the computer until you are done with everything else..follow the instructions and connect the USB cord LAST !! Also, you will save ink if you don't install any software that communicates with HP over the internet. As other posters mentioned, you need to buy a USB cord separately..the unit doesn't include the cord.. but that's OK.. The printer and the $5 cord add up to free shipping. Another thing I found different from the HP 1000 unit was the ink was harder to get into the machine. Just make sure you hear the "click" when you push the ink cartridge into the unit. The HP 1000 had a better graphic on a sticker showing how to do that.. I don't print color very often so I set the option on Black Ink Grayscale. You can change this when you want to print color but mostly I print text and when I purchase something off the internet. This is a good basic stand alone printer..it doesn't hold much paper but it's easy enough to refill the paper slot. My daughter ordered one too and we are all happy with it.

Pretty much the starter printer. Ink, as always, costs as much as a brand new cheap printer.
