Becoming the Iceman - 10th Anniversary EditionFor generations, we've been taught to fear the cold... And while there are consequences to extreme cold exposure, with proper training, anyone can thrive in the cold and learn the lessons it has to teach. You may recognize Wim Hof from TV specials or YouTube clips; you might have seen him running barefoot above the Arctic Circle or swimming in ice-cold waters. While performing these incredible feats, Wim remained warm, comfortable, and centered, establishing himself as epitome of what is possible when someone uses the cold as a tool to train their body. Scientists became fascinated with Wim -- was he a genetic anomaly, the proof of evolution, or something else entirely? Well, in fall of 2009, college student Justin Rosales decided to follow in Wim's footsteps to discover if he, too, could conquer the cold. In this dual-perspective autobiography, Justin and Wim's lives intersect as they share their journeys and methods for becoming Icemen -- and prove that it's possible for you, too. More Information : BecomingTheIceman.com Review: This is no Hocus Pocus!!!!! It will set your life FREE!!!! - This is the book that finally set me FREE! What I mean by that, is after 4 years of searching for how to take control of my life(living a life with A.D.D.)with out confusion or illusive philosophy (which I love real philosophy) or the Aurthur only telling you enough to buy their next big book that turns into a cycle only to bleed your pockets. This book is truly selfless and straight forward with the truth. The reason I know is because I have started my cold training and for the first time I truly feel alive and free. The cold is now my favorite teacher thanks to Wim and Justin. This book is all about stepping outside our comfort zone and conquering our fears. I do not have one friend or family member who does not think what I am doing is crazy. The reason is because we as humans have taken the path of least resistance and stayed in that comfort zone. And in this comfort zone lies a sickness that will crush your very spirit. For those that wish to take back their life or change their life, this is the one book you need! There is no SECRET in this book, you do not have to search for the answer. You must empty your cup, open your mind, believe in your self and step outside your comfort zone. I promise you, once you start to see what I have only begun to see. You will be forever grateful just as I am forever grateful and thankful for what Wim and Justin has shown us in this book. This is a lifestyle change that you will never regret. But please use caution and never ever force your training. I have lived with spondylitis (arthritis that attacks the spine and pelvis with crippling effects) for the last 10 years. At the age of 30 it has become unbearable to tolerate the pain, and I refuse to end up in a wheelchair. I believe Wim in what he has done with his ability to heal himself and take control of his mind and body just as much as I believed in joining the Army during a time of war as an Infantry Soldier to fight for my country and my family. What other people call miracles is an everyday achievement for Wim. This man has and still is defying science and medical history! The cold has become my daily medication, I never thought I would be sad when the winter months start to fade. I look forward to help Wim in his journey to spread and show people that they are capable of so much more and to help take their life back by stepping outside their comfort zone and into the cold. I see that a couple of reviews mentioned editing issues, honestly the information in this book is priceless in my eyes. I was able to read it and re-read it with no problem. If your decision in buying this book is a make or break due to few minor editing issues, then you need to ask your self truly and honestly, how much is your life worth? Review: Wim Hof is amazing - I read this book a long time ago and I have also studied with Wim and continue to study with him. Yes there are spelling errors as pointed out by others and some of it is Justin's story... However this is one of, if not the most inspirational person on the planet today. He's giving away his secrets/methods in the book which is priceless, but worth the price of the book for that section alone. Wim's story is so inspirational and shows that one can do anything and that it is all mind over matter. No one on our planet is doing what Wim is doing and especially at his age (50's). To have his story and methods to do what he does is priceless. If you want to change your life follow the methods in the book and your life will be instantly transformed.

Inspiring, but suffers from poor editing
First, if you're not aware of who Wim Hof is, look up his death defying feats of cold resistance on YouTube. Be prepared to be amazed at the human potential for the supernatural. Second, a disclaimer: this book is not a guide on how to become the Iceman. Or rather, it is not *just* a how-to - it's primarily the story of how Wim (and now Justin) came to be Icemen. Wim Hof and Justin Rosales recount their life stories in a fashion reminiscent of diary entries. Together, they form a picture not only of how the original Iceman came to be, but also of how Justin Rosales met and studied under Wim Hof, going from an ordinary guy to spiritual brother of the Iceman. They cap it all off with world-record setting 5k and 10k runs, respectively, in the snow and ice. Their stories succeed in inspiring, especially if you've seen Wim's videos online, and their methods are well documented (with disclaimers, of course) in the back of the book. Wim's most impressive accomplishment is his ability to control his autoimmune system through meditation, which could have profound health impacts throughout the world were it a common ability. Justin, meanwhile, shows an intense grit and determination to reach his goals, at one point sleeping only 2 hours a night for a month in order to fulfill his academic requirements and to raise enough money to train with Wim. While the content is good, the editing could have been sharper, more to the point. The beginning meanders for the longest time before Justin even hears of Wim Hof or vice versa. Meanwhile, the diary-style entries aren't exactly poetry, oftentimes dragging on, or in Wim's case, occasionally exploding with italicized revelations. To be fair Wim's first language isn't English and Justin never made any claims toward being a great American writer - he is a psychology major in college. On the upside, it's good to be able to hear the excitement and authenticity in these two authors' voices, but it could have kept that authenticity and excitement while being considerably lighter than 47 Chapters. Overall, a worthwhile read with feats to amaze and inspire, but don't read it expecting a masterful combination of scientific and investigative narrative like Chris McDougall's Born to Run . Instead, read it for what it is - the story of two men out to conquer themselves in the cold, in their own words.

fantastic book to read And learn abolut what is possible to achive
Your body is capable of incredible achievements and everyone can do it. This book is beautiful in the detailed descriptions and documenting the progress you can gradually achieve. I tried myself a short few second barefoot walk in the snow and it so awesome that I can suggest it to everyone. Such a nice feeling of the fresh snow was amazing. Read it and try it and you will see it is worth to try to change one's habits and try something new. Thanks the authors, I believe this book opens up new horizons to work with your body and mind.

Fascinating subject, excellent content, and sincere authors torpedoed by incompetent editors
FYI, If you're interested in reading this book & are considering Wim Hof's online course, it's currently included with his course as a PDF. I initially gave the book a 1-star review, but I later upgraded my review to 3 stars to reflect the useful content in the book. First, 3 suggestions to readers, then the specific criticisms of my review: 1. Compare other books on the subject. When I purchased this book, it was the only one available on the Wim Hof Method, and I found it lacking in readability. I can't comment on other books, as this is the only one I've read on Wim's methods. Info from online sources didn't come anywhere close to matching the depth of what I found in the book. 2. If you get the book and manuscript quality is important to you, keep in mind reviewers' criticisms of weak points. If I'd known those ahead of time, perhaps I wouldn't have gotten so frustrated from assuming the book would be of at least average editorial quality and then finding it came nowhere close to that. The book's terrible editing annoyed me so much that I tossed it in a donation box long before finishing it. Still interested in finding out more about Wim's methods before shelling out for the online course, though, I eventually retrieved and finished the book. 3. If you find the book difficult to get through, consider reading Wim's chapters first and then going back through Justin's. I found it much less frustrating when I switched to this method, because the information flowed more logically. Specific criticisms: This book scores very low for readability and usability. It sorely lacks ease of referencing specific material due to the lack of both an index and table of contents. It also scores poorly in clarity of writing and logical sequencing of information. The book's useful background & technical information is buried in a morass of poor organization, utterly trivial and irrelevant detail (especially in author/editor Justin Rosales' sections), and frequent errors. The book contains some excellent information. The authors come across as open-hearted, enthusiastic, conscientious, and deeply devoted to sharing their subject matter. If they ever spring for a real editor to clean up the manuscript and reissue it with an index and/or a table of contents at minimum, the book could be a fine showcase for Wim's methods and both authors.

Great book,,
Ever since learning about Wim I haven't been able to get enough of him, his stories and everything about this guy is just super intriguing. If you've heard him on some of the most recent podcasts this won't be anything new but it's still just a great story and a great read highly recommend it.

Skip this one.
So Wim Hof has been gaining steam lately with people like Kelly Starrett and Brian MacKenzie in the world of performance and some of the things he's been proving with the use of scientific evidence. His primary mantra is how cold exposure can be a huge health benefit. I've been intrigued with his work since hearing about it. Honestly, a lot of it seems like hocus-pocus mumbo-jumbo when you listen to him talk about it (IMO, Wim has a tendency to exaggerate), but the fact he keeps willingly submitting himself to experiments and proving that what he says is true is pretty astounding. Anyway, I decided I'd give his a book a read. Sadly, I wasn't too happy, mainly because it's not really Wim's book. It's Justin's book with a few tidbits of Wim here and there. The book splits chapters between the two authors probably about 60/40, but Justin's chapter are longer. Justin was a young college student who became interested in Wim and the book chronicles his journey of meeting Wim and his journey with cold training. Wim's chapters more or less chronicles his going-ons during that time and eventually the stories merge up. The first real beef was that the chapters don't really tie together at all. It seems to be done sort of chronologically, but I honestly can't be sure that's true. Second beef was the writing quality was low. Most of Justin's story telling was really arbitrary. It had tons of facts that didn't tie in. I think there was a section about how worried his parents were that he was traveling in every chapter. It wasn't surprising to learn that the book was edited by Justin and his girlfriend, Brooke. A lot of the reviews on Amazon have stated the same conclusion I drew. The last 20-30 pages are the real meat where they cover how to begin training using the cold, and really most of is covered for free if you just look up Wim on the interwebz and/or just use common sense (put ice in a bucket, put your feet in, remove them when it starts to hurt, gradually over time go longer and longer, etc.). Honest opinion would be to forego this book. Look into other Wim resources.

Wim Hof Is Great!
Awesome book! A must read if you are interested in how much potential the human body and mind have. It is written in two parts, Wim's and Justin's. Justin's part is a little tough to get through at times but I feel he is trying to give you a feel for what it's like to learn the method from someone without all the life experiences of Wim. You can skip Justin's chapters and just read Wim's if you want. The Wim Hof Method is difficult and take a lot of dedication! but the benefits can be huge.

Misleading description
Following the description of the book, I thought that it would be include the method and practices used in the training of Iceman with some small story of the autor. Instead of that it is a biographical story of the autor and only one chapter with a few pages of the method.
