Indestructibles: Mary Had a Little Lamb: Chew Proof · Rip Proof · Nontoxic · 100% Washable (Book for Babies, Newborn Books, Safe to Chew)

Review summary: Pros: Easily washable (dishwasher or laundry), truly indestructible, easily portable, fun images, baby loves them, conveys different ethnicity/culture than my own, at least conveys a story (unlike most of the other Indestructible titles) Cons: Story is very, very short and words (just the nursery rhyme) appear on back cover rather than on each page My son loves his Indestructibles books! He has 7 or 8 of them now. He's just over 1 year old now and I got him his first ones used at a yard sale when he was 5 months old. The really are indestructible: they withstand so much abuse (teething, crushing, tug of war, and more) and then I pop them in the dishwasher to clean them up. The bright colors and fun images never seem to fade regardless of how used they are. I actually prefer it when they are broken in - much softer. You can even iron them (with a sheet or some other colorfast fabric that can take the heat between the book and the iron) to make them flat again. I love that they are so thin that you can take them anywhere. I can easily slip one into my tiny purse to take on the go. When we took a vacation recently, we brought a couple of these books to "read" as bedtime stories instead of his board books so we could pack light (we made up stories for each of them because they don't actually have words or much of a story… Read on for more on that). These books are worth every penny! My only complaint is that none of the books are ones you sit down and read together. I hate that! I want to read him a story. Yes, I understand that these have a key role to play in literacy because it encourages free exploration and communication about the images and blah, blah, blah. Still, I want to book where I have the option to read the story. The nursery rhyme versions like this one I'm reviewing now are a step up from the others that we have because at least it tells a story that follows the nursery rhyme. However each page only has a few words that you speak and the words appear on the back of the book, not on the page you were reading. I love these books and always give them as new mom gifts. Babies adore them for some reason. Parents can tell the story of Mary and her lamb in their own words and the pages are full of interesting details to pick out. Babies also love to chew on the these books and to play with turning the pages without anyone telling them to be careful. Babies and toddlers can do anything they can think of to these books and the books will be fine. (So Will the kids:) You cannot hurt these books. They are completely safe to chew on and tug on and throw and scrunch up. They clean right up so drool and food wash right off the pages. And babies love things they are allow to explore with all their senses.

My 1-yr-old daughter loves this little book. We sing the song and she turns the pages. She asks for us to read it again and again. I like that we don't have to worry about how she treats this book. It's literally indestructible. The content of the book is wonderful; we love the illustrations. We have another Indestructible book called Baby Faces, and we love that one, too. These are fantastic books for babies and young toddlers.

The "indestructibles" books are great! They are light, waterproof, colorful (great illustrations!) and they seem more like real paper than traditional board books... but your toddler can't rip them to pieces! I like to keep one of these in the car and one or two in the diaper bag for easy distraction/entertainment while on-the-go. They weigh almost nothing and take up no more space than a few sheets of folded paper. This is a really great product!

I love the Indestructibles books. It allows for little ones to truly interact with the book without harming themselves (no paper cuts) or the book (no torn pages). The issue with this particular one is that the poem of Mary Had A Little Lamb is not there. It is a picture book. While I do know the poem, I would like there to be words to read along with the images.

Love this book and story. Only issue is the words are not in the book per page. So I wrote them in with a permanent marker and now we can sing words and point at pictures on each page. Baby loves singing Mary Had a Little Lamb. Started with chewing and has worked up to turning pages and pointing at pictures. I have purchased several used foreign indestructible books. I just wash them off and they are still usable and continue to be indestructible.

We LOVE this book! We love that this book adds diversity and different skin colors to our book collection. The rhyme is not listed in each page, but it is on the back. We remember most of it, but my 2.5 year old doesn't mind if we have to flip to the back to make sure. And sometimes it is more fun to just talk about the pages rather than "read" the story. The pictures are a great representation of each verse. My daughter loves to "read" it alone at nap time. The indestructibles are the only books she is allowed because she destroys others. This is her go to book. She hardly looks at the other 3 she has.

I bought these for our child care center. They are used daily and have not torn or been destroyed yet! I would give a 100 stars if possible!

Not what I expected disappointed no words

These books are great, 3 month old babies loves them. The colours and illustrations attract them. My friend's baby likes to hold them, suck on them, star at them, and the can be washed. The same comment is for all the books, will publish this comment for all of them

I don't think it was outlandish of me to expect finding the lyrics on the pages, so that Baby and I could read along page by page. I mean, *I* know the lyrics, but one of the perks of reading to your kids is helping them pick up words that they see repeatedly. I previously purchased the Twinkle, Little Star book, and it had the lyrics. I'm especially disappointed because I was so excited to get my kid a book with a little bit of diversity and representation. Out of the several titles I ordered, this one is the one I was most looking forward to... yet it's the only one that disappointed once delivered. I can't bring myself to give it a 2- or 3-star rating specifically because the diversity aspect trumps the rest, but c'mon, a book without words on the pages? (It does have the lyrics on the back. Some pf them, anyway. I guess I'll just write them down myself with a marker, but I wasn't buying a DIY book)
