JMS caused a fair amount of controversy throughout his lengthy run on Spidey and some of it is collected in this volume (Sin Past) and there is far worse to come (One More Day) But you also have the respectful 9/11 issue here and also The Conversation in which Aunt May finally learns the truth about her nephew. JMS also takes on the whole mythology of Spidey's origin and asks was it really just a freak science accident or was there something predestined? It doesn't always work and it's a little convoluted but you've got to admire a writer who tries to add something to a 60 year continuity. I'd take a writer who takes risks over a writer who is phoning it in every single time, even if I don't always like the results. You won't find the "classic" villains here very often. JMS creates some new threats, most of them tied to the new origin story he's trying to tell. As for the book itself, it's a beautiful addition to the Spidey Omni collection. The cover art is one of my favourite images and the spine has held up on the first read through. It's a hefty one but that is the reason why you like Omnibus and not TPBs right?
