Learning and playing MahJong offers a glimpse into traditional Chinese culture in an engaging way. A versatile game that is loved by all, MahJong is a fun way to sharpen your mind or a good excuse to bring together friends and family . Different from the adapted American Style MahJong, the Classic Chinese game encourages players to get creative when building their winning hand, rather than following set patterns. It uses a unique two tiered scoring system which adds another layer of excitement to the game. As the game is quite dynamic, players must be imaginative and clever to keep up with the exciting challenges that each new game of MahJong presents. Evelyn Wong grew up in San Francisco Chinatown where MahJong was a dominant part of her childhood. After retiring, she began passing on the tradition of MahJong as a teacher, and watched new communities form over just one game. Stemming from years of teaching experience, "Evey Wong’s Guide To Playing Classic Chinese MahJong" is not only a great introduction to the game but also a helpful reference guide for the more advanced player. Review: Great guide - The book is organized into four lessons, and includes scoring practice which is really a nice bonus. The compact book goes into detail, but is not a dry read. Seems like it will be a much used reference book well into the future. Very nice illustrations round off the enjoyable experience of reading this book. Review: Concise & Informative book for Beginners of Chinese Mahjong - Well written book for beginners on how to play Chinese Mahjong. There are many variations of the rules for playing Chinese Mahjong depending on the group that you join to play with.
