Fantastic body for the price
A fantastic APS-C semi-professional body. So far I have had a wonderful time shooting with it, especially with the amazing autofocus. It has a good-sized buffer, a great frame rate for both mechanical and electronic shutter, and produces amazing quality RAW pictures. The IBIS is excellent, battery life is way better than advertised depending on shooting style, and is quite comfortable to hold. Ease of use is great, especially with the vertical dial and joystick. It feels durable with high quality plastic, functions without any hitches, and is overall with the money. It especially writes fast to V90 UHS-II memory cards since it has dual card slots. Overall excellent!

Great quality camera
I absolutely love this camera. I upgraded from a canon rebel t6, and it is QUITE the upgrade. The crop sensor really allows you to pull a quality picture from a really far away subject. I love how fast it shoots, and the subject eye detection is GREAT. I paired this camera with a sigma 150-600mm lens, and while they aren’t technically compatible, you can still get great images. There are issues with focus when using a non-canon lens, but I’m certain these issues wouldn’t exist if I was using a canon lens. I absolutely recommend this camera for any wildlife photographer looking for an upgrade, but not looking to spend the $ that comes with more professional grade cameras. The battery life actually lasts way longer than people say they do with mirrorless cameras.

Perfect Camera!
The Canon R7 works flawless in low light times. The camera is decently compact and has such an amazing battery life which has not died on me once! It is compatible with and RF mount lenses unless you use a adapter with work perfect. It is both easy to use with a fairly decent amount of features to it. Would recommend getting this if you are more serious about photography/videography.

Great for birding!
Perfect for my needs as a birder. I’m a big fan of the rear dial placement as I find it much more comfortable to use than the rear dial in top of my previous R10. The body feels great in the hand, striking a great balance between portability and roominess, with plenty of space for my thumb to rest on the back, which I appreciate. The crop sensor allows for more reach, so that I don’t need to get as close to my subject, while also having the most pixel dense sensor offered by Canon. Battery life is great, allowing for hundreds of stills before I even hit half battery. For those inclined, this is also the perfect camera for third party RF lenses, seeing that Canon restricts stabilization, which is easily made up for by the IBIS, and that third party designs are restricted to crop sensor designs currently, so you aren’t sacrificing any image quality by using them as on a full-frame body.

Powerful, Compact, and Built for Action
The Canon EOS R7 has completely won me over—it’s the perfect mirrorless camera for anyone serious about sports or fast-action photography. The battery life is surprisingly strong, lasting through long shoots without the need to swap mid-event, which is a big plus when you’re on the move. Its zoom performance (paired with the right RF or adapted EF lenses) is sharp and reliable, giving me the reach I need without compromising image quality. Speaking of quality—the photos are crisp, vibrant, and full of detail, even in tough lighting. The autofocus locks on fast, and the camera’s continuous shooting mode is smooth and incredibly responsive. Despite its professional-grade performance, it’s lightweight and compact enough to carry comfortably all day. The controls are intuitive and the menu system is user-friendly, even if you’re transitioning from a DSLR. It’s a powerhouse in a manageable size, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Best APS-C money can buy
Simple the best all around crop sensor camera you can but at a very reasonable price. Built well. Fps speed is fantastic. Size is just right. The auto focus is amazing. Sticks to subjects like super glue.

After a year, I like this camera more now
**Update to my initial review -- 17 Sept 2025** Since updates to firmware have been released, all the gremlins I experienced initially seem to have gone away. The problem I had with my SD cards seem to have been isolated to the fact either I was using V60 cards, or the camera just doesn't like Sony Tough M cards. All the issues with freezing during playback were resolved by using SanDisk Extreme Pro V90 SD cards. I'm really enjoying this camera right now. I believe it still has a few weaknesses (rolling shutter in electronic shutter mode, no warning when focus stacking that your lens is still set to manual focus), but overall it's solid. 4 stars. ========================================================= One week in and setting review at 3 stars for now, will update later depending. Firmware: 1.5.0 Lens: EF 100-400 4.5-5.6L (V1) on EF-R adapter My biggest gripe so far is the little glitches I keep having. I have had custom setting unset themselves. I have custom settings that work, then quit working. Example, I assigned AF Start to the AE lock button. A day later I turned on the camera and the button refused to autofocus. Checked settings and yep, AF Start still assigned to AE lock button. Finally tried unmounting and remounting my lens (with camera off) and suddenly it's working again. In another instance with my EF 100-400 L, turning the manual focus ring even a small amount put the camera into perpetual manual focus mode. Finally turned the camera off, unmounted and remounted the lens, turned it on, then it started autofocusing again. Today I shot images Card 1, then removed card 1 to my PC to transfer images. After returning card to camera, on pressing the camera play button I received the message "No Image", as though the card was blank (yes, both cards formatted to camera before use, cards are the Sony Tough-M SDXC UHS-II V60 128 gb). Only after removing and reinstalling Card 2 would Card 1 start reading again (??). Haven't really had a chance to wring out the AF so that will get updated to the review once I've had more time on the camera. As expected for a high resolution APS-C sensor, images get noisy once you get to ISO 1600 and beyond. Luckily Lightroom Classic has a great denoise feature, so I run auto ISO all the way to 12,800. But it's a lot of time to spend denoising a series of images, so be aware of that. Don't like the fact Canon decided to never let this camera take a battery grip. I don't always use one but having the option is nice. Canon should have separated the scroll wheel and joystick on the back. One thing Canon loves to do is completely rearrange commonly used controls that we have gotten used to after years of use on another camera. It appears they do that less on their top tier models. Not a judgement just yet but the internet is full of reports of this camera having such extreme rolling shutter (slow sensor readout speed) that it renders the high speed electronic shutter a feature with very limited usefulness, and virtually useless for what many might buy this camera for in the first place. For what it is, it's still a good value for the money, but that's contingent on everything working as advertised. Hopefully Canon releases a firmware update that can address some of its current issues and they won't just kick out a Mk II and leave us Mk I owners a dog.

Stellar camera in its price range
Absolutely love this camera, this is my second camera now. This camera is wonderful for sports photography i love for skiing and all kinds of fast paced activities. With the 30mp camera sensor also takes wonderful landscape and portrait photos as well. The 3 programmable function buttons i use on a regular basis. The flip out screen was a awesome feature to get really cool angles on shots. Battery life will last you about 5k-10k pictures definitely very happy with this camera and is a awesome mid range camera for sports photography. I would buy this camera again if it ever stops working
