Logitech MX Mechanical Mini Wireless Illuminated Keyboard

I was initially reluctant to splash out the £160 this keyboard costs but a friend swore blind by his and advised me to keep an eye out for a price reduction and then grab it then. It turns out this was a wise decision. Since purchasing this keyboard, i've followed up by purchasing the Logitech bluetooth mouse and speakers set as well. All three bits of equipment seem expensive compared to the cheap rubbish you can get, but here it turns out that paying that bit extra was more than worth it. It's the keyboard I'm reviewing here, though, so a brief bit of context. I'm a developer and do a bit of writing on the side as well, so tend to spend a lot of time using a keyboard. I also work IT from home, so I'm used to using various keyboards from old, wired HP ones, and the cheaper, flimsy plastic logitech ones that share adapters with their cheap mice. I've never really thought much about getting something multi-purpose that I could use among all my devices until recently, but I've been a Mac user for years, so once I'd decided it was worth pursuing, I needed to get something that would work well on both my Mac mini and the work laptop. Since purchasing this device, i've also picked up a windows gaming laptop, so it became even more important. The first thing I considered is how the keyboard feels when typing. Even though this keyboard does have a numeric pad, the whole unit did feel like it was a bit smaller in width than the keyboards I'm normally used to, so it took a little adjustment before that became comfortable. I also had a small niggle with the space bar causing a rather noisy squeak in a quiet environment, which was unexpected. Rather than send it back, I decided to remove the space bar key (easy enough to do, if you're not heavy-handed) and actually turned it around. That worked for a while, but then the sqeak returned. I then flipped it back to its original postion and got a little paint brush with some keyboard oil to lubricate the underside spring area just a little. That solved that issue, and is the only negative experience I had with the change. I'm a cack-handed, two finger typist mostly - apart from banging the space bar with the thumb of my left hand. I also tent to mistype a fair bit, so the back space key has to be instantly reachable with one of the fingers of my right hand, and accurate. Nothing worse than trying to delete a character and accidentally hitting insert, or another key in that general area. I'm comfortable doing reasonable typing speed on this new keyboard, although I have tended to find that sometimes I'm hitting function keys instead of numbers because obviously i'm watching the screen. This is almost certainly due to my stupid fingers rather than an issue with the keyboard. The keys themselves are touch lovely. Honestly, just the feel of them, and the firm way they move on the plate when depressed is great. It actually probably increases productivity because it feels so nice to type with it. I've often absently found myself stroking my hand across the keyboard just to feel the keys because they're just that smooth. You'll see what I mean if you try it. It's probably important for me to say that I can't emphasise how nice it is to work with a keyboard that feels this nice. Now this is an expensive keyboard because it's mechanical, and has the lovely backlighting options and all that, but why does it cost so much? There are 3 programmable connection buttons, so you have the potential to use it with up to 3 devices, should you want to, all by just bluetooth connections. This makes the unit very portable if you want to use it in different areas around the house, just for starters. I've now got it setup to work for my Mac, work laptop and gaming laptop and switching between them is just a matter of pushing whichever connection button has been configured. Ironically it wasn't something I really bought the unit for originally, it just turned out to be so handy that I'd probably have bought one much sooner, had I realised it could do this. The function keys are all cross purpose. Default mode has the function keys work for the usual media controls and screen brightness, keyboard colour settings and so on. Just hold down the function key and press escape once and then the function keys work as they would within any application or game you're using. It's that simple. So much easier than holding down func each time you want to use it's alternate command for every keypress otherwise. This feature has probably been around on other keyboards prior to this, but i've never had one, or noticed it, so it's worth a mention. There's no messing about with batteries for power on this keyboard either. For all i know it might actually take batteries - I never thought to check - but it has a USB 2 port at the back right-side corner for charging. It holds charge very well, and the logitech software will advise you how much remains. For me, i just put in one of those little magnet adaptors into the back of it and got a magnet charging cable, so i could alternate the one charging lead between this, the mouse (which uses the old micro USB connector) and my phone/ipad. No more clumsy pushing connectors in and out all the time, and damaging the casing trying to ram them in. The numeric keyboard also has a few dual functions on some of the keys so now, on either the Mac or PC, I can just press the lock key in the top right of keyboard and then the escape key in the top left of the keyboard and it's locked down with the screen blanked. It's only a little convenience but I found that so much nicer than sleeping a computer with the mouse, or giving my fingers cramped trying to windows L on one hand. You have the usual stands you can pull out on the underside of the keyboard to raise the back height and also one of the keys actually pops up the calculator, and works for both machines. Again, probably always been a keyboard feature but I've found that so handy since I realised I could do it. Expensive keyboard but it turned out to be so worth the price, I think. 100% recommend.

I can't think of anything I don't like about this keyboard. I've heard a lot of people saying the letters rub off, or the keys get marked with finger grease. If this is happening to mine, it's not something I notice. I work from home, so use it for upwards of eight hours a day, and have had it for six months. I came from an Apple keyboard, and various Apple macbook pros, since 2013. I always like chiclet keyboard, and moved to an MX Keys, which was also good, and nice to type on that the new Apple keyboards that come with the Mac Pro. I then replace the MX Keys with the MX Mechanical, and haven't looked back. It makes a really satisfying noise, but isn't obnoxiously loud. I can type at about 80wpm on it, about the same as the MX Keys, but I enjoy it more on this one. The backlighting is good, and responsive -- to the point that my mac pro keyboard now seems sluggish because you have to actually tap a key to make it light up. The wireless connection is very good. Keep in mind that only the USB dongle will work with bitlocker/filevault, or entering bios, otherwise, on mac and pc, bluetooth won't work until the OS boots. I ended up buying a spare USB dongle, and have one in my mac and one in my PC. Every so often, the keyboard goes a bit weird, laggy and repeats keys, and I have to power cycle it. Maybe once a month. Battery is great, much better than the MX Keys. I can't be charging it more frequently than once a month, I don't think. I spent a long time on the fence about this keyboard. If you are too, buy it. It is expensive, but worth it. I like it so much, I left this really long review.

this is a fantastic keyboard. very comfortable to use and a lot less "clicky" than a normal mechanical keyboard. the backlighting is bright but not too bright and is adjustable with function keys directly on the keyboard the backlighting will turn off if you don't use the keyboard for a few minutes (it turns back on as soon as you touch the keyboard) I've had it for a few months now and the battery life is very good, it needs charged about once every 2 weeks or so (and I use my PC every day for long periods with the backlight set to full brightness) it's perhaps a bit expensive but you get what you pay for

The only reason I ain't giving 5 stars is the sheer cost of the thing. Maybe that's unfair as my mindset is still stuck in 2000 prices when I paid £30 for a keyboard and mouse which still work, but overall I'm super happy with it. I wanted a mechanical keyboard as I wanted that tactile feel, which you defiantly get without it being too clacky and loud, it's just right. It's wireless and the backlighting is great, if this had fingerprint built in it would be perfect. The fact you can customise all the buttons is great, the software is really simple and quick, mind I've not used it for the keyboard as everything is set out as I'd expect (coming from a mac magic keyboard). I did use the software for the mouse though and having copy-paste configured on quick buttons has been awesome so can say the software works well. I would consider the negative reviews and take them with a pinch of salt, as complaints of no print screen button etc seem a bit odd to me as I don't really know anyone who uses print screen over shift+cmd+4 for snipping just what you need, you can always shift+cmd+3 for full screen or you can use the software to remap buttons to whatever you want so anyway. If you want a mechanical keyboard but also want wireless, I think (as you can see from all reviews) this is the one. I was on the fence about getting it over a new magic keyboard, but after years on Apple's super low profile keys I realised I wasn't actually very comfortable using it, if I'm honest I was getting Apples keyboard just cos I knew it would work and looks nice. Happy to report this has worked flawlessly out of the box, I haven't used anything other than Bluetooth and setup took about 1 minute. It looks dare I say it, nicer on my desk as well! Its lovely to use and I'm super happy I switched. So if you have the money you will be really happy going with this.

First off, let me be clear I'm reviewing a standard UK keyboard, just as pictured on the listing (as of September 2022). The enter key is the "tall" two row height you'd expect on any other UK keyboard. I mention this because other reviews seemed to expect something different! I'd been looking for a "professional" mechanical keyboard for a long while when this was announced. I'd tried various competitors, but none of them had quite the right mix of features. My former daily driver was the regular Logitech MX Keyboard. That was great, but I wanted mechanical to have greater key travel and tactile feedback. The MX Mechanical has a very solid feel, on account of the metal in the chassis. It's low profile, with height adjustable feet. It feels premium, without being flashy. I really like the keyboard being equipped with Windows and Mac style key markings. This is really useful with the "quick switch" function, where you can use the keyboard with three devices, switching between them with just a single key press. This allows me to quickly switch from my work machine to my iPad, which I use for personal emails, etc. More generally, the shortcut keys on the top row enhance productivity nicely, e.g. the screenshot button, mic mute for Teams calls, calculator launch. There's a key to lock your screen if you need to walk away. You can connect using bluetooth or the Logitech RF USB dongle. It's worth using the dongle and the Logitech Options+ software to get the most out of the keyboard. For battery life I get at least a month of use with the backlight sometimes on. I'm sure it could go longer, but I'll usually throw it on to charge on a Friday evening. The backlight has three brightness levels, and it's a clean white light. It's not too over powering in the dark, even on the brightest settings.

I've been on the hunt for a really nice keyboard for while as I program all day. I currently use a happy hacking keyboard (which is quite a different type of keyboard and to adjust to). I bought the mx keyboard as it's a really professional looking keyboard. Trying it out, It's got a really nice "quiet" click to the keys, they respond really nicely. It's really nice. Trying out this keyboard it has a really lovely "not annoying" sound for a mechanical keyboard and really nice typing experience. The lighting is amazing,in a low light level environment it really is amazing. The keyboard senses where your fingers are and lights up, just really nice. My only issue is the layout is different to the screenshots. I'm use to a small enter key. but the actual keyboard delivered is massive. I'm finding when I press the "back" button, I'm selecting the "enter" by mistake. I'd rate this keyboard 100% but for one annoying issue. The enter key is massive and right next to the back button. Imagine making a typing mistake and going to press the back space, but pressing the enter key instead. I've fallen into this issue quite a lot. The images on amazon don't tie up with the actual keyboard delivered. I suppose for most people, this wouldn't be an issue, but for me, I just found when sending slack messages, I pressed the wrong key and the worst wrong key is the enter., which sends. So to summarize, the keyboard is silky smooth, really nice and quiet, the automatic lights are terrific in a darken room whilst working onto the early hours. But for me, the chance of sending things when pressing enter when going for the enter key is just a bit too much. Maybe blame all the keyboard makers. I haven't got a screenshot, but check out the other reviews and you'll notice the enter key is twice the side of the official images.

Giving five stars because the build quality is really good and the connectivity with the usb dongle is great for pre-os input. I returned though because the key switches weren't for me, it felt a bit squishy and not very satisfying. I also wasn't a massive fan of how all the keys were placed right next to each other. The F keys have no spacing which really messed with my muscle memory, which is going to prevent me from buying a more thocky variant of the keyboard.

Sim, é um teclado caro, mas a sua utilização é excelente o toque nas teclas pode ser suave e ele aceita tudo e gosto muito do conceito de tecla não metida dentro, ajuda imenso na limpeza e conservação do teclado.

Questa tastiera è un piacere per gli occhi e per le orecchie. Gli switch marroni offrono un ottimo compromesso tra il suono di una tastiera meccanica e la discrezione, senza disturbare chi ti sta intorno. La uso quotidianamente in ufficio e funziona alla grande. Attenzione però: il layout non è italiano, quindi alcuni simboli potrebbero non corrispondere.

Amazing keyboard and looking forward to the 10 month battery life. Quite sad to find that the shoe which was advertised was not included in the shipment. Now I have to continue typing barefoot.
