Trick is to get the sizing right on the 3d printed model so that the lip on the inserts fits easily in the hole but doesn't go into it. Then you just apply the applicator that's in the soldering iron, and gently apply a bit of pressure so it slides into the plastic and then you just lift up and everything is set - once it's cooled down (you will burn your fingers the first time - give it _time_ to cool off!!). What I realized is that my old inserts will work but not easily. The inserts with this model has a small lip with a slightly smaller radius than the actual insert. This allows you to easily align the insert with the hole and push it in. When I use my old inserts without the lip, it works but you have to be careful. The insert fall off a few times before I got it right. So that means you need to ensure the inserts you buy for refills are the same kind. And they most likely will come at a premium.
