Great protractor for land navigation using maps. Punched a hole in the middle with a hot needle and threaded a string through it for measuring angles across a map. I bought it for the large numbers since so many others have very small numbers. Plus it was dirt cheap. Very convenient size. Very sturdy and will likely last a long time.

The Westcott 3.5-inch 360-degree transparent protractor is ideal for use on topographic maps. The protractor is just the right thickness and easy to read. I use mine with a thin black fishing line running through the center (punch two small holes, one hole 1.0 cm above the center toward N and another hole at the center of the protractor, thread the line through the two holes, with a knot in the first hole and pass the thread through the center hole) to determine the direction angle from a starting position to destination. The same black line is then used to determine the distance to the destination with a map scale. I prefer this method rather than using a baseplate compass to determine the correct direction to a destination. It is accurate to about 1-degree if the protractor is aligned correctly from starting position to destination with the map’s parallel north/south lines. Simply adjust the compass to the degree that was determined and hike away with knowledge about distance and direction. This method is used in Great Britain, Austria, and Germany by various mountain and hiking clubs.

This is a Compass Protractor. I don’t understand the negative reviews this item has received eg. too thin, made In China etc. If you are looking for a compass protractor to determine declination while using a Topo Map this is exactly what you need. Sure we all have a device that has an app to find direction. What happens when your out of range of a cell tower? Learn how to use a compass correctly. It may even help you find your way to safety if you ever get lost trekking in unfamiliar territory. This item works. If you use topo maps then this item is a must. Buy one - it’s cheap enough. You won’t regret it. Think of it as a “spare tire.”

A pretty good little protractor, thin enough that it can be stowed inside a bound map book

I bought some of these for work. They are prefect for testing electronics with potentiometers. Many testing specs call for potentiometers to be set to different degrees of rotation, I drilled a small hole in the center for these to slide over the post. They are thin plastic but inexpensive, they are prefect for what I need them to do.

I usually preferred Alvin or Westcott for my drafting rulers and templates. This Westcott protractor compass is a really nice template, only 3-1/2 inch diameter. It's semi-flexible, so it shouldn't break. The only complaint: Supposedly, it was in stock, but took nearly 2 weeks to get it in my hands

I ordered this because I needed something small enough to verify angles and to mark my work pieces without having to rely on larger tools that don't overlay the work as easily as this does. The plastic is stiff enough to hold its shape and thin enough to comfortably fit into my shirt pocket. Although I ordered only one of these, I was puzzled by receiving a packet of a dozen. Is that how these normally come?

Good tool for working with maps. The plastic has flex and appears to be good quality. The lettering looks good and price was fair. Good for calculations when using map and compass.

Used for plotting bearings on a laptop screen. Perfect for what i needed.

Nice clear markings. Seems plenty strong but more bendy/thinner than I expected. Good pocket size identified correctly as advertised. Well protected by plastic wrapper.
