Quality; well designed; goes on quick;
I've been using an Easy Walk harness on my pup for the past couple years as he has been quite the puller. He has been improving a lot and I recently noticed hair loss/rubbing on his 'shoulder' so I decided to finally graduate him to a regular harness. (Easy Walks are also very ..easy.. for a dog to wiggle and jump out of - my dog managed to slip to various extents a few times on walks and at the vet.) I have Ruffwear's Doubleback and Load Up harnesses which I use specifically for hiking and vehicle restraint. They make great gear so I immediately went for this after confirming that it had high reviews like their other products. I'm also a fan that it includes a chest attachment point for times when you may need the additional control or redirection. After a few walks, I think it's a fantastic harness. It fits great - the adjustability is very good. Note: The fit of the doubleback harness is also excellent but I find the Load Up harness to be on the larger/longer side. Being quick to put on is very important to me for multiple walks a day. The Easy Walk harness was very fast to put on and I was worried that this would take much longer just from the looks of it but it's really just about as fast to get on - maybe it takes a couple more seconds to get it over my dog's uber thick and skin rolled neck (he has bulldog in him.) My dog seems to like it a lot - it definitely offers free range of motion and the padding has to be more comfortable than straight up straps. The reflective strips a great touch for night walks. Again, I like how there is also a chest connection point in the case that my dog ever needs to be controlled in say a heavily trafficked area. I like how there are no connection points on the neck loop and how it fits - it's basically a collar that my dog could never slip out of. The back connection point is wide enough to fit my Tuff Leash's somewhat large carabiner connection through. The connection is placed further back which also ensures that most force is being directed laterally through the chest versus the neck which is important for a puller or any dog who is susceptible to darting at squirrels or deer. I was a bit upset with the colors upon selection. My dog is black with a white chest. The orange is out there and too bright/light. The dark gray would blend in too much and cover his white chest - not a very safe, visible color. The blue looked really light and girlish from marketing photos but the customer photos of the blue looked much nicer. I went with the blue thinking it would look good on a male, black dog owned by a guy and it would add color for safety. The Pacific blue does indeed look really good - it is darker and much better looking than it appears in Amazon's and Ruffwear's product images. Overall - it's a really nice harness. I'm very happy with it and will just buy keeping buying these over the years - there is no reason to look any further.

Very sturdy and reliable harness, have used it for 3 dogs now
These harnesses are great and consistent. I have now tested them on 3 dogs. I find one of the main issues with most dog harnesses to be sturdiness and durability. My dogs love to get themselves into messy situations and so I always want to buy something I know can take the abuse. I have yet to see any breaks or tears in the seems or stitching of the harnesses on any of the dogs; so it does appear they can take the wear and tear of every day dog life. The colors really pop and make the dogs easy to spot quickly. There is a metal lead connection point on the back and a small fabric lead connection point on the front of the harness. The size can be adjusted in two spots: around the neck and the other around the dogs mid section so you can get an optimal fit. I find the harness to be sturdy enough to support the weight of the dog in a way that gives control while still being comfortable for the dog. I was able to try this on our puppy and another not well behaved dog. In both situations I was confident in the harness being able to give me control of the dog. For the puppy that often liked to sprawl out and not continue walking, I could easily snatch her up by the harness without worrying the straps would loosen or the harness would hurt her in some way. Also for my dog who isn't a good walker, it gave me much better grip in directing her and resisting her from pulling away from me. My other dog just loves to play and while it has gotten pretty dirty (as you can see in the picture), it has definitely endured a lot of abuse including hikes through heavily wooded park trails, swimming through lakes, lounging in mud puddles, and of course your everyday fetch session. The dogs never seem to mind having the harness on. They are always excited to put it on (mostly because it means going for walks) but I never see them itching at the straps or acting differently with it on when they are at ease or at play. Each dog has a bit of a different body type and I was able to adjust the harness to fit each of them without difficulties, although the back straps admittedly gave me more trouble than they should, this was likely my fault and not the products ;) I was able to use a medium harness for all my dogs and it does seem to be a bit universal judging by the reviews others have left here. I think if you are in between sizes for your dog you should likely go up a size ESPECIALLY if your dog is strong or tends to pull harder. While you can likely extend the straps to fit with either size, going the size up will help with the sturdiness in resisting your dogs pulling. I was in between a small and medium for one of the dogs and while it does seem a bit big on her, I can tighten it up and really get a better grip on her in public (she's not as well behaved as the others haha). So I was happy for going up a size and I feel medium would work for most average sized dogs. At first I was a bit turned off by the price of this product but for the quality and consistency I have gotten from RUFFWEAR, I believe it is worth it. While a cheaper harness could do the same job, I find my experience with cheaper harnesses to not be as reliable as the RUFFWEAR harness which is why I have it for all 3 of my dogs now.

A great and comfy alternative - talk to Ruffwear if you have sizing issues like I did
UPDATE 08/08/2018: Updating my review from 4 stars to 5 stars after I called Ruffwear customer service about the sizing issues I had and they were a great help. I submitted pictures of my dog in his harness, manipulating the harness to show the issues I'd been having, and they helped me figure out the size best for us. Turns out, I actually had to size down rather than size up. My dog's measurements are exactly 22 inches, so he hovered between the XS and S sizes. The issue was that my dog's chest was too small to fill out the S size. The representative I spoke with explained that the XS can actually accommodate up to 23 inches if you stretch it, so I sized down and now the fit is perfect! If you're having sizing issues, too, I recommend giving Ruffwear a call and they can work something out with you. ORIGINAL REVIEW 07/09/2018 (4 stars): Overall, I like this harness a lot. My dog is a puller, and I don't think anything will ever change that, but this harness makes it manageable. I bought this harness specifically because of the padding. We had originally been using the gentle leader harness and then the easy walk, and both of those chafed on my dog's skin. This harness is pads pads pads galore, so even though it looks a little heavier than needed, my pup is protected and that's all that matters. Knocked off a star because I have some issues with sizing. The sizing chart says to opt for the larger size, and the fit is snug around the belly but isn't sitting well around the chest. As a result, the whole harness gets pulled to the side when my dog decides to pull more aggressively. But, when he's just doing his normal pulling, this works pretty great, and it's a small price to pay to keep my dog's skin from being rubbed raw by the other market products!

Well-made, even though adjustability doesn't guarantee good fit
Let me say that this is the last harness I ever intend to buy for my 2 year-old, 14 lbs Border Terrier. The build quality is better than any other harness on the market; all parts of it are sturdy, including the fasteners. The ID pouch is simply a work of genius, and I wish all harnesses had a similar feature. The front clip is the only part that feels a little cheap; I would have preferred another metal clip in front, and the rubber protector is so thick that my Lupine leash clip needs to be at a very precise angle to unclip. Even so, I prefer it to the Easy Walk as a front clip harness, which can chafe more and is less versatile for hiking and other activities. Although a lot of thought clearly went into the construction of this product, it still doesn't fit my dog quite right. It's not a size issue—she's very clearly fits the chest size requirements listed in the sizing guide. But the top piece is just a little too short for her body, which makes the whole thing sit a bit awkwardly, especially when she lays down, and the front piece just a little too long, causing some gaping at the front of the chest. This product looks best for deep-chested dogs with relatively short torsos. Even so, I plan to keep using it, even though the fit is not ideal, because it's just so much better-quality than the other harnesses on the market. Overall, this is a solid buy for your dog that will last a long time, looks attractive, seems pretty comfortable, and is incredibly versatile for the dog on the go.

PERFECT for my 90 lb 3 y/o labradoodle running/hiking/biking companion! He and I both love it!!
We just adopted a 3 y/o 90 pound male labradoodle who LOVES to go for long runs. I knew I would need something better than a collar for him, especially since he has such a thick neck and shoulders. This harness is AWESOME!!! He loves it and even puts it on himself (aside from the buckles) he gets so excited to go! I can tell it's very comfortable on him as he never scratches at it when it's on the way he does his collar and when we come home he can lay down and fall asleep with it still on! The Large/XL is perfect for this big boy and still leaves PLENTY of room both to make it smaller and larger. I can't imagine a medium to massive size dog this wouldn't fit! The straps, fabric and buckles all seem VERY well made and durable. The padding is soft and supple without being too thick and hot. This harness doesn't make my boy sweat at all, even on 5 mile runs! He's never been moist underneath it when I take it off. I LOVE that it has an ID pocket for his tag so we don't have to have something jingling around everywhere we go. I put this on him to connect to the tie out in the front yard when my son is playing out there and use it with a regular leash for walks. For runs, hikes and bike rides I use it with the Tuff Mutt hands free bungy leash which is AWESOME!!! I highly recommend it for active pups! I really can't say enough good things about this harness. I never give things 5 stars but I really think this deserves it! I HIGHLY recommend, especially for really big dogs. Hopefully this helps someone else! I did NOT receive this for free or at a discount.

Perfect!
LOVE this harness. Boo has a very thick chest and torso but a very skinny neck. Every halter I have ever tried on her fits snugly around the torso but gaps around the neck. I had almost given up on finding one but I'm glad I tried this one even though I was wary about the price. Let me tell you- you get what you pay for and this harness is excellent. I was able to adjust the neck down to fit her and still have a little bit left to spare which was super impressive. I also love how easy it is to get on and off. Boo does not like harnesses as a rule and usually tries to make the process as difficult as possible but with this one I just slip it over her head and pull the sides like a diaper, clip two clips and boom, done. I have utilized both the back clip and the front clip depending on whether there are other dogs around or what kind of a mood she's in. The front clip does do a better job at stopping the pulling although I almost wonder if it's because she was very confused about why there was a leash right next to her head, popping her in the ears. At any rate, it worked so who am I to judge? We did have a minor incident in which she got spooked by two fake pilgrim people on either side of the entry of a pedestrian bridge and she pulled backwards so hard that she slipped the harness right over her head and stepped out of it. Luckily she is well trained to sit and wait so she didn't go running off into the busy street but it is worth noting that if your dog does a lot of sitting still while you do a lot of pulling from the front (think goat or pig, not moving, while you pull at it) then this is likely not the harness for you. I loved that almost the whole thing was padded as some old harnesses just had nylon straps and I worried they were rubbing at her under-arm (underleg? Under shoulder? Armpit? Leg pit?) area. With this one it is designed to be padded in every place that could conceivably rub the dog and it seems much more comfortable. Boo has also seemed to enjoy it more as she has stopped trying to fight as much when I put it on. If you've tried other harnesses before and they didn't fit or they rubbed the dog raw, or they didn't seem comfortable- don't give up! Try this one. I is very sturdy but in the event it ever wears out I will be purchasing an identical one.

It's may be expensive, but it's the best
I bought this harness in blue for my German Shorthaired Pointer a little over a year ago, and I absolutely love it (just ordered a second one in pink, so I don't have to re-size to go over her coat). She is built similarly to a greyhound, and is notoriously hard to fit harnesses to. I appreciate that I can adjust the shoulder size on this harness so that it doesn't slip around like others do. It is easy to change the size to fit over coats, and typically only takes me 30 seconds (but I'm lazy, so I ordered a second one). I typically use the front attachment, since she is a puller, and it gives me more control than any other front-clip harness I've ever bought (plot twist, she actually walks on a loose lead when I use the front attachment). She is comfortable in the harness, and often wears it all day when I bring her to work with no complaint. Also, the ID pouch is fantastic for dogs like mine who refuse to wear a collar, especially if it jingles. It can fit her ID tag, rabies, and microchip tags comfortably. I'm not convinced that a regular person who happens to find my runaway will be able to find the tags, but if they are smart enough to take her to a vet or shelter I'm sure the vet would know where to look (of course, she's microchipped, so the tags are a bit of a moot point by then). My only complaint is that the rubber piece on the front clip has worn considerably in the past year, but it hasn't affected the harnesses function -the stitching is still tight, and I'm not worried in the least that the the clip will detach from the harness any time soon. This is truly the best harness on the market (and no, no one is paying me to say that...).

Great Product and My Directions for Fitting
WOW! Great product! High quality and it's even obvious from a distance this harness is well made and classy looking. Straight out of the shipping container I put it on and it seemed the harness was way too small. I couldn't see how it could possibly fit Dixie, my 16 lb. Terrier/Pekinese mix. She was waiting patiently to go outside to go to the bathroom while I fiddled with it. (I advise against making your dog wait if he/she has to go to the bathroom while you make it fit.) I proceeded to carefully loosen the four straps all the way that are similar to bra adjustments. This took quite a bit of time even though I'm 65 years old and have worn bras for 50 of those years... after awhile I was getting the top loop mixed with the bottom and...whoa...which one do I pull to loosen and tighten again?? I finally got all loosened and realized I was putting it on upside down. The way the harness contoured and curved it seemed I was putting it on the logical way...wrong. The picture of the dog and the brand-name "Ruff Wear" has to be facing you so you can read it while you are walking. I discovered to my horror that the harness was now way too big. No wonder the clips were so far away. After tightening all the straps again and slipping it over Dixie's head about 6 or 7 more times I finally got it almost right (loose but fit) so I could take her outside. She looked like a $1,000 purebred, even though she was adopted from a shelter 3 1/2 years ago. I did not try the front clip as, it was even more obvious when I walked that it was too loose to try it that way. She liked the harness and it seemed to calm her a bit. Finally, this morning, I tightened the straps more and figure all of this so far has taken more than an hour. I haven't tried it on her yet but, just this morning,I discovered that I am really adept at pulling the loops to make it tighter and looser. Hopefully, I'll only have to make 1 or 2 more minor adjustments. I'll give an update when I try the front loop as, Dixie is a puller. I used a pen to pull up the two loops together where they curve around the buckle. And you pull the top one to loosen (or tighten, I don't remember which) and the bottom to vice versa. So far I'm happy. The sizing was perfect for her ... I didn't have to go up a size as other readers said (I think it has to do with the shape of your dog.) Also, I noticed that the harness fits more under her arms than other pictures show... again, I think it fits differently for different body styles. I haven't even looked for the ID pocket yet. I will some other time.

Ruffwear Toughwear!
There is nothing ‘rough’ about this Ruffwear Harness! This is the second one I have bought, not because the first one wore out but just for a change of colour! The quality of product is very good. I’ve given it a 5* rating for comfort....not that I can categorically say that it is, because my dog has never said so! He has also never said that it is uncomfortable... The design is good, which makes it easy to put on (and take off) my dog. It is also easy to adjust the size to comfortably fit. The clasps are extremely sturdy. Security features are very good. The ‘link’ to attach a lead is very robust and a second ‘front’ connection, for a lead, could be useful...although I have never felt the need to use it. I am very happy with the Harness.....and more importantly I believe my wonderful rescue Staffie is also happy to wear it and to promote Ruffwear on his daily walks! He has had compliments, not from other dogs but owners!! I would highly recommend this product and have already done so to dog owners. This harness was in fact recommended to me by Happy Staffie Rescue, who do in fact have an Amazon wishlist.....no apologies for having the cheek to promote this wonderful Charity. :)

Great harness.
Well made, well designed harness, especially like the 2 attachment options & padded chest/belly area. Have used many harnesses for walking/hiking with our huskies (big pullers) & this is one of our favourites. The only concern is the webbing around the top attachment has frayed on one of the harnesses over the months that we've used it on one of our biggest pullers (I reinforced it with a piece of leather which stops further wear). There is one spot on the top of the harness that is wearing the long hair off, which is baffling with this great design - but possibly due to movement of harness when using the front attachment - will need to do a fit adjustment, hopefully that is the solution.

Excellent bit of kit
I bought this the S size for my lithe 16kg working Border Collie with a 27 inch girth measurement. An excellent and snug fit on her and it is comfortable when she wears it on long walks. Good build quality and the D ring attachment to the lead is sturdy. Easy to put on the dog too which isn't always the case with other harnesses. I have used other Ruffwear harnesses and belts and they are really durable.
