What is the difference besides the cost, between the hood and the hood collector?

Not sure what you mean by "collector". But if you mean "connector" (or adaptor) the connector changes the outlet connection size so it can be connected to a shop-vac or a portable dust collector which has a smaller hose than a standard 4-inch dust collector which the hood itself is set up for
