I have been buying new mulch every year, and schlepping it all over my garden because I love the look of the nice, crisp black mulch again each year, but my mulch would be faded again the next year. AND this wasn't good for my garden to continue adding more and more mulch on top each year. So when I found out there is just a spray you can use, to spray over your existing mulch, to make it look fresh and new again, I was sold! How smart! It was so easy to spray on, and I only needed to use a fraction of the bottle because it mixes with water (4 oz dye with 1 gallon of water). I did buy the suggested sprayer to use as well and it worked great. It can stain your concrete or siding, so I was very careful to not spray to wide when getting close to the house. It was so easy, so quick and I LOVE the fresh new look again. See my before and after pictures and you'll be sold too.

Worked really well. I actually used it again to stain my post and rail fencing black. The darkest black I could imagine. Been about 4 months and the fence hasn’t faded at all.

I'll start by simply saying this works to restore color to your mulch. It's a deep, almost flat black that dries relatively quickly, but if you have spots of dirt exposed, this won't really be of much help. Any dirt that ends up dyed will not retain the dye color very long if at all. I bought this because I have chickens that sometimes free range and they love to scratch up my mulch beds and fling mulch and dirt everywhere. Every time I re-spread the existing mulch after they're back in the coop, some dirt from the beds end up becoming exposed and I was tired of looking at it. I purchased this spray and a 1 gallon pump sprayer. The coverage is good, and it blends well. The mulch that I re-dyed has retained color for a few rains with ample drying time in between. It's simple to use, but it is pretty thin and runny so your project can turn messy quickly. I would recommend a dedicated sprayer for this because of the mess. The bottle also came without any exterior bagging in my package and it leaked, covering all of my other items that I ordered with it, so beware when pairing this with something in your order. If you're buying this freshen up your mulch color, I'd recommend this. If you're trying to blend bare/dirt spots, set your expectations accordingly

Wow!!! I am so impressed with this mulch dye. We bought the black dye and after reading a few reviews about clean up being a mess. We decided to buy a new cheap Amazon sprayer that is dedicated to just the much dye. Our total investment was like $35-$40 and we have about half the dye left. We did the flower bed by our mailbox, on the front side, corner and all along one side. I did one heavy coat and then went back and spot checked with the sprayer. It normally cost about $800-1500 for us to have a company come mulch. My husband and I are so glad to have some buffer now from when we will have to have our flower beds mulched again.

Mulch is expensive and when new, it looks great. It’s a lot of work to put down new mulch all the time. This stuff works great to freshen up the flower beds. Wear rubber gloves because it is a dye and will stain your hands. It is very effective at the job and lasts a good while.

Applied with a 15 gallon sprayer (takes one half of bottle). I believe the amount of square footage they claim to color to be high but never-the-less very pleased. It did not cause any sprayer problems but will discolor the sprayer so prompt clean up is a must. The black mulch looked great when finished. Be careful to any border bricks, etc as product will leave a stain even if washed promptly. I used a fiber board in front of border and used the hand wand sprayer. For open areas sprayer worked very good. Wear suitable clothing as it is easy to get "messy". I will be a repeat user. The next time the product is used I'll be wiser about the approach to application.

Works as advertised. Be sure to buy only the amount you need, because the liquid dries out in storage. I bought the 1/2gal in the Spring thinking i would get multiple uses. Was very pleased with the results and used about half the bottle. I then put the lid on the bottle and placed it in the shed. Went out today to add a fresh coat and was disappointed to find the liquid solidified and is unusable.

For the last three years I have been using the EnviroColor brand mulch colorant. I started with their brown (2 summers) and eventually ended up with the black stuff. The EnviroColor product worked really great however it's definitely more expensive (twice the cost). Their coverage is 2600sf for about $28 vs this stuff is $56 for supposedly 12800sf. Here is the problem this stuff SUCKS. I'm sorry, there is no other way to state it. I have about twenty arborvitaes and several Australian pines on the property. If you have these you know they endlessly drop needles which are sharp pointy and turn a pretty brown/ orange color, (Being sarcastic about color). Well with the EnviroColor product no problem, just spray them and they totally blend into the mulch no need to spend hours raking them in or trying to get them out of the mulch bed. This product however made ZERO impact on those needles! Secondly sometimes you run into dead leaves. The EnviroColor once again, spray it and it's completely blended into the mulch, this stuff, NOTHING the product just runs right off the leaf's surface leaving it the same ugly brown. Lastly grass, sometimes you overlook a bit of grass growing up in the flowerbed. I've sprayed it and with this product it's still visible, whereas with the EnviroColor product it would just have turned jet black immediately. Now does it color mulch? yes, but even then it's not a dark black like fresh mulch, It took me twice as long to get decent coverage and even then it wasn't great, I even went back and double coated it as per directions and it still looked bad. (I never had to double coat with the other brand) The EnviroColor product gave me a very deep black color and I was able to spray it further away and at a faster rate. Now I will admit that color only lasts about a month (with the EnviroColor) but it does a nice job. I can't talk about durability of this product as I just received my gallon and used 20 ounces (4 gallons) and decided it wasn't worth teh effort to continue. Being a Prime member I just set up my return and will order the product that I know will work. For the record I followed the directions to the letter. My first batch 4oz of product to 1 gallon of water well shaken to ensure it's mixed and the disappointment was IMMEDIATE. OK, so next 2 batches @ 5oz of product to 1 gallon of water and same thing, poor coverage. Last batch 6 yes SIX oz to 1 gallon and still disappointing. I will go back and pay extra to use a product that covers any problem areas I may have, and also saves me time and effort. I might not have said that a few years ago but as I get older I appreciate when things just do what they are supposed to. The main difference between the two products seems pretty obvious while this is mostly a liquid the EnviroColor product is more like a thick tar substance.

Awesome idea but unfortunately I didn’t get to use it this year because my landscaping didn’t get done so it will get to work next spring and I can’t wait to use it! Totally recommend!

I like the price point. Good value.
