Thule Outway Hanging Boot Bike Rack

Have been using this for a while now with no issues. Easy to install and is very robust. Have used it to transport two mountain bikes (one XL frame and one kids) with no issues.

Very well made and easy to fit and use.

It took a while to build the rack up, I did this indoors and then took it out to the car. There are a few points where you think "huh ?", in particular slotting in the arms where the predrilled holes don't seem to line up - until you put the bolt in which brings them into line and the spinny knobs to tighten it don't seem to do anything, until they do. Once built its quite easy to put on the car and to put the bikes on it. In operation its absolutely rock solid, the bikes are totally locked in place and don't shift even a mm. One, you would think obvious, thing to watch out for. Don't slam the boot shut once its attached. If you do this it will smack you in the head very painfully.

The bike carrier is really well made and give the impression of quality. It is very heavy. However after purchase I checked the handbook for my Ford Puma and it explicitly stated that a bike carrier should not be fitted to the tail gate. So my advice is to check your vehicle manual before purchase.

Assembly and fitting this is a bit of a bear, but other than that it's fantastic. Drove for over 8 hours to Glentress in Scotland, the bikes were secure and no adjustments required for the whole week trip. Parts of the bike did rub on the rack, and if you're really fussy about your car you may find a scratch here or there from a pedal. But I'd say this is the best bike rack I've come across. It is expensive but well worth the money.

Ho acquistato questo portabici pieno di fiducia verso il marchio Thule, da cui mi aspettavo solo il meglio (sopratutto a questi prezzi)...purtroppo l'idillio è durato ben poco: Ancora prima di utilizzarlo il portabici ha evidenziato problemi con il ritorno in sede del cavetto di acciaio che si utilizza come antifurto delle bici; non rientrava del tutto nel braccio oscillante del portabici rimanendo fuori a formare uno scomodo e rischioso occhiello all'estremità del portabici. Ci passo su e mi convinco che nell'utilizzo le cose andranno meglio... Sfortunatamente, utilizzandolo in una settimana con 4 cicli di monta-smonta le bande elastiche che si fissano i telai delle bici per non farle sbacchettare (e urtare sul cofano) si sono sbriciolate miseramente. A chi potrebbe pensare che le ho strette eccessivamente rispondo che, serrandole nella fibia immediatamente prima, le bici oscillavano in maniera così importante che dopo 200 metri di tragitto sono dovuto scendere dall'auto per stringerle; questo perché le staffe stesse si erano mosse dalla loro posizione corretta causando la liberazione delle bici dalla posizione di blocco. In conclusione dopo una sola settimana di utilizzo il portabici è inutilizzabile, se non riacquistando delle nuove fasce elastiche di bloccaggio. Consiglio vivamente di fare ricorso a prodotti più economici ma che forse mantengono meglio le aspettative, almeno nel rapporto qualità-prezzo.
