Have never been disappointed, great Henckels quality at an affordable price
Nicely sized knives, that are somewhat lighter than a lot of other Henckels. Tthese are forged and not stamped steel, the blades are thinner than many of their other knives. The larger 7 inch has a bolsterat the end of the blade and is good for chopping vegetables, mincing and general cutting. The smaller 5 inch knife is similar to many utility knives found in sets. It is good for working with smaller foods, like fruit. These arrived sharp out of the box, but did a little touch up on them using a Henckels pull stone sharpener and set the edge with a steel. Now they're close to razor sharp. Grip is nice with the larger knife having a larger handle. Both are comfortable to hold for someone with medium sized hands. Bought these on sale around Christmas and think we got good value for knives made of German steel. The white handles are a nice contrast to our other knives that have wood, black and colored plastic handles. Have had matching sets of less expensive knives previously, which have been handed down. Haven't run them through the dishwasher. Not something I would do with a kitchen knife, so will leave commenting on that to someone else. We hand wash after use, towel dry and put away in a knife rack. The blades look like they have a lot of chromium in them, so don't think rust will be a problem. Will update this review if that happens, or any other problems. Just think that's unlikely. These are easy to use for most everyday kitchen tasks, but wouldn't try to chop through a bone with them, use the tip as a screwdriver, etc..... Use a meat cleaver or another tool depending on the job you're looking at. Have never been disappointed with the brand - great Henckels quality at an affordable price point. Personal opinion is that Henckels/Zwilling knives hold their edge a little better and longer than Wusthof but that's a minor difference. Do love our Wusthof chef's knife. That knife, a Zwilling three inch pariing, and a 4 inch serrated Victorinox utility are our go to knives in the kitchen. Hope these pearl handled Santokus will get a lot of use as well.

Great knife
Great knife. Not much else to report other than it is a good price for what you get.

Good for a small kitchen.
The photo in the listing is of the 7 inch not the 5 inch. I bought the 5 inch at a store. I have had it nearly two years and I like that I can keep it in a cup on my counter close at hand since it is short and the point is more rounded and thick. My counters are small so I don't want to be wielding a freaking sword so this knife is good for me. I'll agree with other reviewers on the quality of the sharpness. I have had mine long enough that I have had to sharpen it. It wasn't too hard to do with a basic stone and it's cheap enough that I am not afraid of damaging it and the edge has held up well since then. It works well enough for some basic cutting tasks. If I was doing a lot of chopping I would want a longer knife but for cutting up a tomato daily or a small block of cheese once a week it is fine. The blade is pretty thin like other reviewers said but I have gotten used to it. One other negative is that the very back of the blade, the heel, is strangely thin and has a sharp corner. That back corner catches on the towel when I dry it and I have poked myself with it. A better designed knife would have a bolster at the heel to protect the fingers which would add thickness for strength and balance. The knife is a three star knife overall but I give it four because it works for me. If the blade was thicker with dimples on both sides and a bolster that protects the fingers it would be a five. I was considering getting the J.A. Henckels International Forged Premio 8 inch chef's knife. However, after writing this review I realize that knife is also missing a good bolster at the heel. I may buy another J.A. Henkels knife but not one missing a good bolster.

Great for slicing veg
I have 2 Henckels knives. Much better than budget-priced knives. Easy to sharpen. Balanced, easy to hold with small, mildly arthritic hands. Very good value.

Gives really thin slices!
I have an 8" Santoku knife but sometimes it's too big for a job. My researched for a shorter knife found this one. When out of its package, I was surprised to see that it only had the standard Santoku grooves on on side (the grooves help keep food from sticking to the blade). I'm left-handed and initially thought that it wouldn't work for me-wrong! Imy first use of it was to slice an English cucumber into wonderfully thin slices. So I did more research and learned that grooves on only one side, means a single bevel knife, that the blade is sharpened on only one side, with the other side having a flat or almost flat edge-a Japanese desogn to create very thin slices. Now I know why my knife sharpening tool has an Asian setting. This knife is very sharp feels good in my hand, and can make very thin slices. This knife is a great addition to my arsenal of food prep tools! BTW, I have never been able to effectively use a sharpening steel, so bought this excellent this knife sharpener that perfectly sharpens both Western-style and Asian-style knives: WÜSTHOF 2-Stage Hand-Held Sharpener. I've had it for 3 years so all of my knives are always super sharp.

10/10 no notes
I have thousands of dollars worth of top quality knives but somehow henckels stays the sharpest. I have one that’s at least 10 years old, handle is falling apart, put it in the dishwasher every day, and it’s still the sharpest knife I own. I decided to try the newer version- dont be fooled by the price they’re amazing and they look really beautiful. I have 4 of these now and continue to completely ignore my other more expensive knives for the quality that is henckels lol.
