is this a moist heat?

Yes it is. The flax seeds contains moisture especially when new. It will still be moist but not that much after repeated use. If you like moist heat, you may spray water before microwaving. Can you wash it if something spills on it or someone with a cold uses it?

It is filled with grains. If you soak it in water, the seeds may become sticky. You can try to do a quick wash and fast drying so the inside doesn't stick. It will be a risk to take if it didn't turn out right. Or if you can sew, cut it open, wash it, fill it with what you like and sew it back close. Try to match our quality won't be easy. Well made and works great but does have an odor if you are sensitive to smells.

It does heat up and feel nice but the smell is overwhelming and horrible and makes me feel sick! It smells bad!! Yuck. I get the worst headache and feel nauseous. Update - I immediately heard from the seller after writing this review. She was so kind and caring and offered me a full refund. She said the odor was from the fresh seeds and would dissipate with usage. I am extremely sensitive to smells, much more than most people. I can't be around any perfumes. Everything else about it is great. It is well made and the weight is perfect and the materials soft. (I'm very fussy about textures too.) It does heat up nicely in the microwave and felt heavenly to my sore neck.
