Pro Tools 10 Power!: The Comprehensive Guide

This book is exactly what the title claims, "Comprehensive"The book follows a fairly standard format of describing what Pro Tools is (as if you didn't know) the concepts and terms that are used, system configuration and set up, creating your first session, the menu and toolbars, transport windows, edit windows, mix windows, plug-ins, midi, multi track sessions, synchronization, post production and mix down, bouncing and overall everything you every wanted to know about Pro Tools 10.The pictures in this book are black and white, and all concepts are covered in detail. This really is the manual that you would turn to if you had a question to be answered beyond the basics of the program. It even includes some legacy and discontinued product descriptions which might still be relevant. (eg. control surfaces, interfaces, sound cards, etc). This is a large 614 page tome with 23 pages of introduction and contents. It does not come with a CD/DVD and there are no working examples to get you into the program. Having said that, a novice Pro Tools user should be able to make headway in learning the program as Frank D Cooks writing style is logical, easy to read and follow. For experienced users its virtually a bible on all things Pro Tools 10.If you want to do a Pro Tools course, this book is far more than needed, Frank D Cooks  Pro Tools 101: An Introduction to Pro Tools 10  is the easier option with color picture and glossy pages, much more akin to a certification course. This book is heavy going if you do not have some experience with using a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) as prior knowledge is assumed in certain topics and functions.If anything about Pro Tools 10 is missing or not in this book, then it is not worth knowing.

Simply put, buy this book if your a Pro Tools 10 user!! If your either just beginning to start using Pro Tools or are experienced with Pro Tools, this book is a must have for all the above! Frank D. Cook has been kind enough to write this book and share his expertise with this incredible program. He has written another book for the Pro Tools User Certification class that I'm taking (Pro Tools 101) that is a great introduction book as well and Pro Tools 10 Power is a great addition to that book. Pro Tools 10 Power is a more in depth guide on all the possibilities of what Pro Tools can do. The book also covers other great information how digital audio works in general that can be applied to any recording situation...all great stuff!! Don't hesitate to buy this book if you want to get the most out of Pro Tools....I highly recommend!!

If you're looking for a bound print substitute for the Pro Tools user manual, then I suppose this book is OK for that. It doesn't include much information that isn't in the manual, and does include lots of sales-pitch-y information about Avid products that you probably don't (and won't ever) own. What the book lacks is very much how-to information. It goes through the menus and tell you what different options do, but it isn't much good in terms of practical tips and guidance. For that kind of stuff, I got a lot more from watching YouTube videos than I got out of this book.

This is THE definitive book on Pro Tools 10. While version 10 is not the latest version of Pro Tools, it can be found at bargain prices and has all of the most important features that the latest version has in it. Plus, it's THE 'standard' in the recording industry. This book covers EVERYTHING you'll ever want or need to know about Pro Tools 10 and this book WILL shorten your learning curve dramatically.HIGHLY recommended!

So much info in here it's amazing. I give it five stars because it IS very well written and is as it claims--very comprehensive.However, I'd recommend joining macProVideo.com over this book any day. I joined it a few weeks ago and am amazed at the plethora of music softwares that are covered IN DETAIL. High quality instruction. If you're better at learning audio-visually and hands on than through reading, put the $40 you would've spent on this book and join macProVideo.com instead.

I really like the history the author gives in reference to Pro Tools and how it evolved over the years. He also goes into pretty good Depth as to how to use the program. I do recommend the book to anyone just learning about Pro Tools and how it can be used to create music.

Great book on Pro Tools10! Just what I needed to brush up and dig deaper as needed. Easy read and great for reference points.

I gathered a few new things, but as a long time Pro Tools user, it was obvious that the writer didn't have experience with the system. It was not really put together as a professional audio person would arrange it.

Definitely a comprehensive guide. I bought this for my partner who used to record in analogue many years ago and has only recently got back into music production. He has find this a very useful manual which is aided by his existing sound recording knowledge.

A lot of inforamtion graphically and methodically explained. It has changed the way I use ProTools10 - I now know how to!

Ich bin doch überrascht: Dieses Buch hat ja immerhin 614 Seiten, aber eigentlich steht doch erstaunlich wenig drin. Sobald man nur einwenig ins Detail geht, gibt es keine weiteren Infos mehr ... also schaut man dann doch wieder in den Pro Tools Reference Guide nach, der ja vollständiger, aber leider nicht sonderlich strukturiert ist. Vielleicht für Pro Tools Neulinge als Ergänzung bedingt zu gebrauchen, aber da gibt es sicher bessere Bücher.
