with the price of ssds skyrocketing, this is a good alternative until they come back down. I love that its usbc. its very user friendly and the value is incredible. the write speeds are decent.

Great product

Product seems to work as described, however seems possibly slower than the Lacie it replaced. Time Machine says its going to take 12 hrs to back up my 1tb internal hard drive. Pretty bad, if this is actually the time it will take. On the other hand, once it makes the initial backup, new backups in theory will take less time. We will see. I have a drive sled with conventional drives and a SATA interface... that may be the fix, and this may get returned. Ok, 1 hr later, and now the IMac says 3 hrs to go... which is not so bad. I will add another star. It actually completed in 2-3 hrs, which is good enough, raised to 4 stars. I will update this review as I learn how the product performs. Update: Product seems to work fine, very similar to the old Lacie it replaced, just more compact. I have it working with time machine on my Mac, and it all seems to function. I will update this review to 5 stars.

Only 4 Stars because of this hoop I had to jump through. I ordered this 4TB drive last week and it was delivered faster than expected. I have been using LaCie Backup Drives for years with NO problems. My latest drive came with "Tool Kit", which I, following the instructions, installed. I then experienced some glitches. My drive took a long time to mount. Then disappeared off my desktop. I had to unplug, then re-attach and it appeared. Though not right away. The only problems I have encountered on my new 2019 laptop (I use a MacBook Pro) has been caused by third party software. Especially things that end up in System Preferences (like Tool Kit). I uninstalled Tool Kit from my System Preferences and have had NO problems since. Tool Kit doesn't do anything your Disk Utilities can't. I recommend not installing this. If you have problems, run your Disk Utilites (or whatever PC computers offer) or contact Customer Support. Hope this helps. Addendum December 2021: It appears problems I had with drive "disappearing" off desktop also due to bad cord that comes with the drive. This is sad that a good product is accompanied by a cheap USB-C cable. I bought a new one off Amazon and connectivity much better. Provide better cables La Cie!

It’s very slow to download files! I retuned it and they aren’t going to refund the full amount and very upset about it. It doesn’t work properly and I have to pay damage fee? Are we for real? I paid $187.72 dollars I’m getting a refund of $152.51 $35.21 dollars deducted for damage ? It didn’t work Omg I’m very upset. I won’t recommend the item or the seller! Shame shame shame!
