The knurled thumbscrew has a spring. Once you unscrew it, it pops allowing you to push and swivel the pin on the other side out. Same in reverse

Q: My rifle has a synthetic/ plastic stock, would these studs be okay?

A lot depends on the thickness of the stock walls, because most synthetic stocks are hollow, check thickness at heel of stock if there is plenty of meat studs should be ok remembering to drill the correct size pilot hole first, same with fore end as stud might be to long & will foul the barrel. my rifles have pre cast lugs for a sling
