Although American based and I live in England this book is fantastic and a steal at only £2, I actually wish I hadn’t spent money on others as I should of just bought this one first, fantastic read and very informative.

Useful starting information for a new metal detectorist

Disappointed that the text inside this book is very much attuned to the USA detectorist activities and finds , USA coinage, medals, etc that are possible in the US. Advice therein is comprehensive and some is of use to note here the UK. On sale in the UK there is no indication that it is aimed at the USA operator.

Useful information set in an easy to read format gets a thumbs up from me. Although created for the USA market this book is relevant for this country also nice to get a female perspective of the hobby at a bargain price.

This was written by an American lady for the American market but all of the points that she makes are relevant to someone starting out in metal detecting. MOST important of all, read your user manual!! Get out in your garden and use your machine to get used to the sounds and operation.

Brilliantly well written book that is easy to read and very informative! Not just a book for beginner's but a book for all irrespective if experience. Defiantly a book to keep in your kit bag and not on the shelf !!! 100% recommend

I've taken up metal detecting at the ripe old age of 63 and needed something to help me on my way and this book is helping me to understand what I'm doing, I would recommend this book for anybody who wants to get into the hobby of metal detecting.

Very easy, fast read.. I wanted this product to help guide me to whether, metal detecting was for me? I now know it is, so look forward to re searching various detectors and getting started.. Thanks!

This is a good book and very helpful for the beginner in metal detecting. I like the way it is written, you don’t have to distill information from it, it is just listed in easy to read tips. The way the book is sectioned off it makes it a great reference book. It is full of really good tips, a glossary, and a nice resource section. It has a ton of information yet in an easily readable format that isn’t the size of a textbook. It cleared up a lot for me and gave me a greater understanding of the hobby.

This is a delightful primer for aspiring detectorists. My wife, son, and I devoured it in turn on Christmas morning as we played with our new detectors. Ms. Shafer writes with an easy to read style and includes anecdotes to move the reader along the entrance path of a fascinating hobby. This little book is chocked full of information based on the experience of its author, a seasoned detectorist, and that's why she made it easy to carry into the field. Any newly acquired hobby has its own lexicon, and this book educates we noobs n a way that I can heartily recommend.
