Pest-Stop Trip Trap

After spotting something quickly darting across the kitchen floor a week ago, I was hoping my eyes were deceiving me but after leaving a spot of cheese on the floor, it had later gone! Seeing as we don't own pets, I thought I'd better start looking for a humane mouse trap to capture and release our new house mates. I ordered the product on 11 Oct. and took the free delivery option which meant waiting for 4 days to arrive. I'd advise anyone with a mouse problem, to pay extra for next day delivery!! In the mean time, I went to the local DIY shop for some cheap humane traps to try whilst I waited for this product. I ended up with some traps called Big Cheese (STV Pest Patrol) and they were poor quality, with the door mechanism not really working and it certainly caught zero mice with the bait either gone or the trap door closed before the mouse entered!! I was pleased the day the postman turned up with the Pest-Stop!! I followed the instructions and baited my trap with a chunk of cheese and left it out before going to bed, by morning I had my first mouse. As advised on the box, I released the mouse a quarter of a mile away from my house at the local golf course. The trap then needed cleaning before leaving out once more which can be done with relative ease, as the trap is assembled in 3 sections that can be removed. Unfortunately for me, whilst re-assembling the trap flap to the main trap, I dropped it and the fall caused the trap flap (door) hinge to break off meaning the trap would no longer work but after contacting the customer services department to see if I could purchase a new trap flap to fit back in my trap, I was offered a full replacement free of charge, so 10 out of 10 to the manufacturer for customer service!! I've since left a few potatoes out to see if more mice are around as I've not seen any, but sure enough, bits of potato have been bitten into, so I've now ordered another 2 of these traps to leave out around the kitchen/lower cupboards to try and capture and release as many mice as I can in the shortest possible time. If you think you have a mouse problem and don't want to call in the experts, I can highly recommend this product as an easy to use and successful mouse trap! I wish I had bought a couple of these traps to start with, but you live and learn!!

The older I get, the less inclined I am to kill little creatures who have as much right to live as I do, however I don't want them living in my house! I bought these traps to return my resident mouse back to the wild, where it belongs. I left crunchy nut cornflakes and a capful of water for it for the first 2 days, so it had an easy food source, and would come back to the same place. 3rd day I placed the cornflakes in the trap. The advice is to not leave the trap overnight because it stresses the mouse, so I took it out of the cupboard where the mouse lived, before I went to bed, and placed it on the sink. In the morning I went to put the trap back in the cupboard, and there it was, in the trap! I have no idea how it got up there, there's no gaps for it to climb, just wall. I didn't take a photo because it must have been extremely stressed overnight, I released it as quickly as possible at the bottom of the garden (yes, I know, should have taken it further). Back to the trap. It feels quite flimsy, but was sturdy enough to keep the mouse contained and to safely transport it. Effective and simple design, I highly recommend it. Check it frequently because it's a very small trap, and the mouse will die in that small space if it's left too long, defeating the object! Best of all, you won't have rotting mice tucked away somewhere, as you would using poison (horrible way to go). My conscience is clear, thanks Pest-Stop!

Having had a recent mouse problem, I panic-purchased several different types of mouse traps. After feeling guilty about the killer-type traps (literally Deathtraps!) I disposed of them and stuck to humane traps. And this was the best of the ones I used. This is similar in design and function as Trixie Mouse Trap, 6 x 4.5 x 17 cm but costs a little less. You can see the quality difference if you compare the two. The more expensive trap has a proper panel to open in order to access the trap to bait it and for release of the mouse, however this trap requires you to detach the back from the front which is a bit fiddly and I don't trust it to last very long as you have to flex the plastic every time. As this is made form thinner materials it doesn't feel as substantial. To use, you pull the trap apart and bait it, then push it back together again. To set the trap you simply pull out the green tab at the front and raise the 'trap door'. The door is held in place by a lip of plastic wedged ontop of a mechanism, this mechanism is activated by pressure - so when a mouse wanders in and goes to the bait, the trap door descend and the mouse remains inside. As this is very lightweight - on one occassion the door didn't fall and I basically treated a mouse some chocolate digestive biscuit. This is slighty tinted so that the mouse feels relaxed inside, but you can easily see inside to see what you've caught - you'll also know because the green tab at the front will be raised to indicate that the trapdoor is closed. If you accidentally trigger the trap by knocking it, it's easy to reset. And once you have caught a mouse - you can safely pick up the trap and transport it without the critter escaping. However releasing the mouse requires you to raise the trap door and those who aren't very good around mice might not like the fact that your fingers will be right over the escape route, especially if you have a feisty mouse (again, the more expensive trap has a better release solution as you just raise a panel at the back). In a nutshell: An solution which works well but others do it better. This can be re-used and should last some time but I'd be tempted to pay a little bit more for the more solidly built variation on the same type of design. As these are very inexpensive through - I would recommend these if you want to place a lot of traps.

Up until we had two cats, mice were never a problem. Unfortunately our two cats used to love catching them in the garden and then bringing them home, alive, to show us how clever they were. That was fine up to the point where they used to let them go, inside the house! Having spent many happy hours emptying a room or two of every stick of furniture in order to catch the pesky mice (whilst two cats would watch proceedings with interest but take no active part) we decided to buy some mouse traps - of the humane variety. So...we bought two called "The Big Cheese" these traps were as useful as a chocolate fishing rod cathing absolutely nothing. In practice the mice used to think of them as their own personal food-banks. So we spent many a weekend, clearing rooms and catching mice using a variety of "make it up as you go along techniques". Old age eventually overcame our two lovely cats and they went to the Mouse garden in the sky. Funnily enough our mouse problem also stopped at about the same time.... Wind forward a few years to present day. A mouse appeared in the kitchen one day, my wife noticed it first. It was looking into the pantry and then back at her as if to say "is that all you've got then". Now I am a live and let live sort of fellow, but I had a sneaking suspicion that no only was this mouse rooting through our meagre store of consumables but had also been reading my morning paper before I had..you know the sort of thing...pages in slight disarray and not quite as neat a a new unread paper should be... Well that crossed the boundary of common decency as far as I was concerned. Something had to be done. Researching on Amazon, I came across these mouse traps and bought two. At the time of writing, the score stands at Traps 3 Mice 0 which is pretty good as we have only had the traps for 3 days. These traps do exactly what they say on the tin. Are very simple to use and clean and seem to be 100% effective in catching the little critters. No more completely rearranging the furniture or emptying the contents of the house on to the patio... and my morning paper is now in pristine "unread" condition each day. The only issue now is what to do with the mice we have collected. They are currently in their temporary home of our green garden bin in which they seem happy enough with lots of bedding and stuff to eat although I think they might be missing their morning paper!

This is a fairly simple device, but can work quite well if you position it correctly. I bought 2 of these to try and remove the mice from our loft humanely. At first, I placed then in our loft with some peanut bars in and caught 2 mice. I tried it again a 2nd night, however it seems the mice have figured out how to outsmart the designers of this trap. If the mice can turn the device upside down whilst inside the trap, they're able to take the food and push the gate to walk out! Make sure you place the trap up against some solid items in a corner, otherwise the mice will just walk out! Update: My success rate is plummeting. I am completely confused how the mice are escaping. I've now found that the mice have taken the food and have obviously left the trap. The confusing thing is that the hatch is shut, so somehow they're simply walking out..

I set the trap at 10pm. Caught a mouse at 11pm! Used chocolate as bait. But what should I do with the mouse? I could have set it free in the woods, a mile away but it would probably have frozen to death or made its way to the nearby farm. So I used carbon dioxide from a soda siphon to kill it within seconds! If I had set it free in the garden it would almost certainly have returned and could have put my life at risk by chewing through electric cables under the floor or in the loft. There was no way I could be sure that the mouse would not find its way into my loft or under my floor, so I really had no alternative - I had to kill it! Regarding the trap itself, it worked fine the first time but subsequently it needed a dab of blue tac on the trap door to balance it. On a second trap, the balance weight was loose and had to be glued in place, but this was easily done. The trap is quite small, so the air inside will soon run out and the mouse is likely to die from lack of oxygen! Cleaning the trap was a pain. The mouse had only been in it for an hour or so but the trap was filled with droppings that were stuck to the surface by strong smelling urine, so I had to run water through the trap, after first removing the trip-bar by gently squeezing it. Don't use the kitchen sink for this! To summarize: the trap works but you may need to balance the the trap-door with blue tac or a bit of sticky tape. And cleaning is messy. A mouse is likely to die from lack of oxygen if it is left for several hours. UPDATE: Caught another mouse in the bathroom - there was a hole in the floor, round the pipes at the back of the bidet. Noticed some small ventilation slots and holes in the trap, but doubt that these are big enough to prevent the air running out after several hours. I have found droppings under the floor, in the loft and in the garage, so I am wondering just how many mice we have on the premises!

2 Days ago I was minding my own business getting ready for work in the morning and I kept hearing rusting coming from the kitchen. After a while it started to bug me so I decided to investigate and deduced that it was coming from under the kitchen sink. As I knelt down to inspect the cupboard the rustling suddenly stopped, it was then that I knew we had a visitor.. Armed with only a vase to trap my little friend I tentatively opened the cupboard to see if I could see anything.. for a few seconds nothing, just then a cute little critter dashed along the drainage pipe and into a hole in the wall, this ladies and gentleman was Marcus the mouse. Concerned that this (rather large) opening in the cupboard / wall housed our new lodger we decided to temporarily block the hole with tin foil until we could find a more suitable solution. Of course Marcus was too smart for this and managed to get through anyway. Fortunately by this point I had ordered the Proctor Trip Trap which thanks to Amazon Prime was delivered and ready for use the next day; we set up the trap with some rather tasty Jam at the end to entice Marcus into the trap - fortunately being the cupboard under the sink there wasn't really any other options for Marcus to choose from (cleaning products probably aren't the most attractive source of food for a cold hungry mouse) - and then we waited. This morning when I woke up I decided to check if Marcus had taken the bait, and sure enough there he was (I have attached a rather blurry picture). Not wanting to scare Marcus too much I decided to take him for a drive to a nice little woodland area ASAP where Marcus may find a new home among his own kind. I searched for a little while to find the perfect spot far enough away from our home that Marcus wouldn't want to make the journey back and released Marcus into the wild where he belongs..farewell Marcus. Okay so long winded review aside, this trap did work really well, the morning after setting it for the first time we managed to catch a mouse, one thing I would say is make sure to use some bait that the mouse won't want to grab and carry away, just in case the trip mechanism doesn't work straight away, as messy as it is jam did work really well. Also try to think of where you will release the mouse before just letting it out, mice can and will come back if they aren't released far enough away, and you don't want to find that you've caught a mouse but have no where to let it go. I'll definitely continue to set the trap, just in case Marcus has any friends but I have confidence that this does work.

This trap is the best design that we have used.(For 6 years) We live rurally and from time to time get the inevitable field mouse visiting with his family. This trap will hold up to three baby mice at once (!) or one adult. It MUST be inspected very regularly, plus late at night and early in the morning, as once the trap has sprung, although it has ventilation holes, the mouse can suffocate if left too long before release, which is probably more cruel than a traditional trap. When we discover a trapped mouse we carefully place the trap in a large empty bucket (the famous orange ones are good!) transport it in the car and release three fields away. (The instructions do suggest a minimum of 500 metres) Cleaning is easy: we run it under a warm tap to dislodge the mouse dirt/ leftover food, use an old knitting needle to dislodge stuck bits, then dry in the boiler cupboard. Hence one trap is useless - minimum of two needed. Food bait suggested - chocolate or good wild bird seed. Mice have excellent hearing but are poorly sighted, so you could get clues as to where they are coming from by standing Very Quietly where you have discovered mouse dirt (droppings) and being patient for a while. Then place the traps along the mouse "run". Good luck!

Caught a shrew who identified as a mouse. Unless there's also a mouse in the house. Anyway he's gone to the wild. Safe n sound. Great product.
