Behringer MICROAMP HA400 Ultra-Compact 4-Channel Stereo Headphone Amplifier for Studio Monitoring

Well this is honest review.I can say that for this money I couldn't get better for 250 ohm Headphones as a starting point.It can drive my DT770/880 250 ohms however DT880, as an open headphones, need more volume, so not to loudest levels. At this price point it is still a good replacement "just in case" for higher ohm headphones. I'm not sure how will it work with 600 ohm ones as I don't have them and I can tell 600ohm is probably overkill. As soon as you pull above 2PM volume it gets little distorted, bass is lacking, this goes for 250 ohm headphones however at this price point you cant expect miracles.I'm talking here about loud levels, not normal "listening to background music" volumes.AKG K240 can be easily driven as well as DT770 32 ohm and ATH M40x.Bear in mind that I tested this on various sources. There is quite a difference between Computer Out from my desktop PC and my MBP 2011 as there was noise levels and hums and it was really bad in point of listening with Pro Studio equipment as their whole purpose is to spot a bad source/mix.I've seen really bad hum and noise because of my old MBP Power Adapter. Unplugging the power adapter from MBP would remove the unbearable noise, however it was still bad as a noise levels were still there.But connecting it to RCA outputs of Fast Track Pro, a quality DAC with 48(96)/24 which I bought cheaply probably due to lack of drivers (but it works nice on Win10 and Yosemite), I have seen a really big difference of Sound quality and there was almost no noise, only at the levels at which it will already be distorted to play at (louder than 3PM). So bear in mind connecting this to Headphones Out or similar will not have great Sound levels and Quality and a lots of noise levels.Also there is a play of impedance, as different Source levels will have different impact on Powring the headphones. probably that is why my 250 ohm headphones are playing nice only with proper RCA output from a real DAC.Just to note I have also tested MA400. It is not more louder than HA400 for higher ohm headphones, which is really bad as it has more actual power than HA400. A simple switch on MA400 to change the gains would make it a really good headphones Amp but you cant have everything.UPDATE:After some intensive testing it looks like that headphones with impedance lower than 80ohm have massive treble issue on this amp. With k701 its not so much hearable however on k240 and m40x you can hear the difference

The sound on my PC is controlled by GOXLR mini mixer and I needed a way to control my headphone volume as well as my speaker volumes independently without readjusting the mixer levels or going into windows settings and readjusting sound settings or default devices.I was advised to use the Behringer HA400 and I am not disappointed. I does exactly what I need it to do. It is well built and sturdy while being lightweight and fitting into the palm of my hands. And it doesn't break the bank.My current setupThe GOXLR mini headphone jack > Behringer input jackMy headphones > Behringer headphone amplifier 1my speakers > Behringer headphone amplifier 22 more additional amplifier socket if needed.I had to use a 1/8 inch Female to 6.35mm 1/4 inch Jack Male adapter so my headphones and speakers could fit the sockets and a male 3.5mm to 6.35mm male jack cable to connect the GOXLR and Behringer.If I'm using the headphones I just turn up the first knob and second for when I want the sound to come out the speakers or it stays at 0/off on the dial.My only gripe is I wish the power cable was slightly longer.

Quickly delivered by Amazon Prime as ever. Great price compared to other online sources.The headphone amp is very small (see photos with hand in shot for scale) but came neatly packaged with the required 12v dc adapter for a UK socket.I am using it to drive my higher impedance (80 Ohm) Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones and although the maximum volume is not ear splitting it is a significant improvement than just being driven straight from my MacBook Air M3 headphone socket.All 4 amps work independently and don’t seem to be affected if all used at the same time. Good clean sound with no distortion even at max volume.For the price and the size it’s a great piece of kit.

Bought to boost the output from BDF3 electronic drum kit VST. The output from the VST is quite low. Having run out through a USB audio interface, I still needed to boost the output to my monitors.Saw this and decided to test a theory. Studio pre-amps cost a fortune so this seemed a viable alternative.Popped it in line between the USB interface and speakers... Job done. Now I can use the monitor volume control on the interface (and just leave this device in line to top up the gain staging).Essentially, if you need to boost any audio... This will do the job nicely.Small device so fits anywhere.Only drawback is the absence of a power switch... But my studio gets powered down centrally after use so not a problem.Brilliant, portable multi-purpose audio booster. Plus you gain more viable outputs too.

Had to give it five stars as it does exactly what I wanted which was a small AMP to drive my AKG K702 headphones.Usually I drive my headphones via my main Amp which I have my laptop connected to, the laptop does not have enough power to drive them from the audio out socket, this drives them more than loud enough, in fact I have not had to turn the level any more than the half way mark.They do not seem colour the sound in anyway, so it's a perfect extension for my music software.The size as I said is small, narrower than a cigarette packet bit slightly fatter (but only slightly) and about the same length. For the size it has a good solid build to it (metal casing) and the pots have a nice bit of friction on them so they can't just be knocked.Extremely and pleasantly surprised by this and it was a bit of punt buy as I had to go travelling with my laptop and did not want to leave my AKG K702 behind....

I have a small home-recording set up and usually only record one thing at a time; usually me playing an acoustic instrument and/or vocals. This year I decided my wife and I would make a demo of our acoustic duo, which means she'll be playing double-bass, adding vocals or another acoustic instrument to what I've recorded.So I had to go from one pair of headphones to two, which meant I'd need a headphone amp.After reading loads of reviews I went for this one and I'm mightily pleased with it. It does the job perfectly well; it's as simple to use as is humanly possible, it's tiny, and it's cheap!Why spend more on something that is no better? I'd recommend this to anyone starting out on a low budget; for the cash you save in buying this amp, you could invest in an extra pair of headphones! If you bought this amp and, for some reason were unhappy with, you could sell on a well known internet auction site and recoup most of your money.I'm a Behringer fan, and this little amp is a perfect example of why!!

This is a great little Headphone Amp for the price. I know that James Hype, a platinum selling artist, owns and uses one of these.Personally I use mine for 2 purposes. Firstly to split the audio so I can have multiple listening devices but the main purpose is to power my DT990 Pros which I prefer to use a dedicated amp for (even though the new M1 Macs have great amps in them already).As of noise, it’s definitely there. It’s not horrible and I was actually very impressed for the price. For reference my Pioneer DJ Mixer produces more noise from the built in headphone amp then this. I know that’s a different purpose to producing music, but even when producing music, the noise isn’t too destructive.I feel like judging the noise is difficult with this, I put 3 stars For Noise level because it is there but then again the price… at the end of the day if you hate noise so much then invest in a $100 Headphone Amp, not a budget one.If your just looking to power high impedance headphones, or you want to split audio, this is a great purchase. If your a producer or DJ this is a great purchase. If your an audiophile then the noise will be a problem.

For the price, I was very sceptical about the quality of this item, but it's great. Full metal body, four sturdy and well build volume controls, and super easy to set up. The package comes with the amp and a power supply. You will need to bring your own cable to connect it to the sound source. I purchased a 2.5mm to 6.35mm cable to connect it to my PC's line out. Works an absolute treat. I find that about 25-40% volume on the level is perfect for most applications and there's absolutely no hiss or noise at this volume. I turned it up to 100% and I started hearing a bit of hiss/feedback at 90%. However, you shouldn’t be listening to anything at that volume, so I can't see it ever being a problem. Good piece of kit for my high impedance headphones (Beyer Dynamic DT770 250Ohm, in case that's your model and you're looking).

Der Behringer HA400 hat mich positiv überrascht. Ich nutze ihn zusammen mit meinen Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro (80 Ohm) und der Kopfhörerverstärker liefert mehr als ausreichend Leistung. Die Lautstärke ist selbst bei leisen Audioquellen problemlos hoch genug und der Klang bleibt dabei sauber und unverfälscht.Die Verarbeitung ist für den Preis absolut in Ordnung und dank der vier getrennt regelbaren Ausgänge eignet sich der HA400 nicht nur für den Einzelbetrieb, sondern auch ideal zum gemeinsamen Musikhören oder für kleine Studioanwendungen.Für alle, die einen kompakten und preiswerten Kopfhörerverstärker suchen, ist der HA400 eine klare Empfehlung. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist wirklich hervorragend.

A seguire la recensione (spero esaustiva nonché utile) del Behringer MICROAMP HA400.TEST EFFETTUATIDa semplice appassionato di musica classica e lirica ho apprezzato la resa acustica sulle voci del Behringer (dal basso al soprano) mentre, tra tutti gli strumenti musicali, il pianoforte è quello che spicca di più, reso egregiamente con una sonorità ampia e vibrante che mi ha incantato. Giudizio leggermente negativo, invece, per l’AH400 riguardo le Sinfonie e qui mi spiego meglio con un esempio: nel Secondo movimento della Settima Sinfonia di Beethoven la partitura inizia “sommessa” (Allegretto) con pochi strumenti che il Behringer controlla, separa ed esalta con una chiarezza più che adeguata...poi però, man mano che gli altri strumenti iniziano ad aggiungersi all’ordito musicale, si va a perdere, almeno in parte, quella sensazione di precisione, separazione e definizione acustica che si aveva poco prima e questa sensazione va e viene seguendo i “pieni” e i “vuoti” della partitura; altro punto debole di questo mini-amplificatore sono le contrapposizioni serrate tipiche dei quartetti (violino/viola/violoncello) come, a titolo esemplificativo, nel D810 di Schubert - Quartetto n. 14 - D minor - Der Tod und das Mädchen – nella versione dell’Engegard Quartet; tutto ciò però penso non sia ascrivibile a un difetto dell’amplificatore e quindi non deve stupire quest’alternanza nella resa acustica poiché solo gli amplificatori di alto/altissimo livello (decisamente più costosi) suppongo riescano a separare con sufficiente chiarezza tutti gli strumenti musicali, specie i tanti presenti in un’orchestra. Ho anche testato le qualità dell’amplificatore attraverso svariate opere: dalla musica sacra al barocco sino all’Opera Lirica italiana...ed è qui, sulla lirica, che, a mio modesto quanto musicalmente incompetente parere, il Behringer dà il meglio di sé in particolare in tutte quelle situazioni in cui le sonorità di voci e strumenti risultano ben separate le une dalle altre o quando l’intensità della voce del tenore o del soprano domina incontrastata sulla musica sottostante...ed è proprio in questi frangenti - specie se teniamo contro del costo del prodotto – che la resa del Behringer appare sorprendente (un esempio: Giacomo Puccini – Manon Lescaut - Atto II – Oh, sarò la più bella – Soprano: Anna Moffo).Nota: chi è interessato, può trovare le composizioni elencate qui sopra (con i relativi interpreti) anche in formato video cercando su YT.ALTRE CONSIDERAZIONICome già scritto da altri posso confermare che la qualità costruttiva è molta alta con potenziometri e connettori inscatolati in un telaio di metallo massiccio: raramente ho avuto modo di imbattermi in un prodotto consumer dal prezzo contenuto ma allo stesso tempo così robusto e curato nelle finiture. Aggiungo di non aver notato/percepito rumori di fondo od interferenze elettriche durante la riproduzione dei brani. L’amplificatore non scalda neppure dopo ore di utilizzo continuativo.TEST CONSUMI ELETTRICI- 1 cuffia- volume: 100%Se devo essere sincero, all’inizio (prima di comprare l’HA400) sono rimasto perplesso dalla mancanza di un interruttore ON/OFF sull’apparecchio...però poi mi sono detto: “Ma quanto potrà mai consumare questo scricciolo?”. E il test sul consumo elettrico mi ha dato ragione: attaccando all’amplificatore delle vecchie cuffie che, per ovvi motivi, non ho indossato durante la prova, non sono riuscito a determinare il consumo dell’AH400 (vedere foto allegata a questa mia recensione) neppure spingendo il potenziometro dell’amplificatore a fondo scala: ciò significa che il consumo è inferiore a 0,1 watt (utilizzando però, ripeto, un solo paio di cuffie e non delle casse acustiche le quali andrebbero a generare un carico elettrico rilevabile seppur presumibilmente minimo).CONCLUSIONIPienamente soddisfatto. Consigliato senza riserve. E, per restare in zona Opera Lirica, un “Brava!” anche ad Amazon.N.B.Semmai in futuro si dovessero presentare dei malfunzionamenti/anomalie aggiornerò il prima possibile questa mia recensione.
