President Grant II All Mode AM/FM/SSB Mobile CB Radio

Excellent radio, well built and performs very well, easy to modify without doing damage, just move link next to the white wire and cut the white wire, it then reverts back to all band all mode radio, just reverse the mod if you want it in EU mode.

Very good radio, only downside is, I get alot people saying that I am coming over quiet even with Mic gain set as HI (for some reason Mic gain is low if you switch it on) going to try a good power mic. seen reviews that state this is the answer. otherwise very good. works straight out of the box (no programming ETC). I you want to pay extra for the heatsink feel free, however operating within legal power IE 4wFM 12SSB i have had no heat problems with this radio.

This CB radio was well designed, but the quality of internal components is suspect as the radio developed a fault within the first week of use, the final power transmitting transistors failing and President have now discontinued this CB radio. President is unable to give a date for the new model of this radio to be launched on the market.

Really good rig if you like listening to people and don't want to talk to anyone. Well made looks nice but the modulation was really really poor.Sent the radio to CB radio specialist, he said nothing wrong with the radio but use a power mike with it, which I do but I think I should have stuck to the two tin cans and a piece of string.

nice radio,,,,was a little bit worried about doing the alteration to the radio,,,,but looked on youtube how to open it up and it was a very simple task,,snip one wire and move a small plugin thing,,,and ureka,,,,one opened up radio.....lovely,,,,very pleased

It's more of a receiver than a transceiver. I enjoy listening to Stateside stations. I can pick up all my local stations and they can here me. I have also made contacts in Texas. Which is impressive considering I'm not using an external antenna. I use an 8 amp Nevada power supply.

Fantastic radio. Particularly impressed with sensitivity, very comprehensive spec, amount of info on the display, quality of build and superb performance. Package and delivery Nevada's usual exceptional standard.

I have been into CB radio for many years, and through that time I have owned many legal and export radios but the time had come to treat myself to something new. My current radio before the Grant 2 was a Mk2 superstar 360FM based on the same Uniden board as the Cobra 148 GTL-DX. As I had great experiences with Uniden radios in the past I was naturally drawn to the Grant 2.First impressions on receiving it were good. The radio is very light and relatively small compared to the old classics. Build quality and materials are very good, however the microphone is very light and doesn't feel all that robust.Now onto switching it on. It is very easy to select the correct country code and to operate the main controls, as well as doing things like programming memories etc.Now onto how it works, and this is the part which lets the radio down. after hearing several good reviews I was expecting good things.Firstly TX audio. On the standard microphone it is very good (So I am told) however due to it being an electret element the radio doesn't like being wired up to alternative microphones. I tried the radio on a Sadelta Echomaster plus and I was told the audio sounded very bassy and not pleasant to listen to. I also tried the radio on a regular dynamic mic and the audio was very quiet. Please not that when wiring alternative microphones on this radio you need to make sure pin 6 isn't connected otherwise you will damage the radio or the microphone...So as long as you are happy to run the radio on the standard MiC there should be no issues with TX audio.Now onto receive.AM receive is exceptionally good, low noise floor and lovely rich sounding audio from the speaker.FM receive is average. The radio has a very high noise floor. On my SS360 the noise floor is S1 and a station I regularly speak to is S5. on the Grant 2 the Noise floor is S3 and the other station is an S4. Received signals that do go above the noise floor do sound good however.SSB receive is really where the radio falls down. With zero signal received the radio suffers from RF spikes, where in the absence of any signal the radio will click and the S meter will flick up to around S9 before dropping back down. Also when speaking to strong stations there is a pronounced clicking on top of their audio. The ALC circuit probably isn't setup correctly from the factory as asking the transmitting station to reduce power or putting the RF gain on local helps the issue slightly. Weaker stations on SSB sound very good though and the clarifier barely has to be moved.The radio did also suffer some bleedover from moderately strong stations that wouldn't even worry the old 360FM.So to sum it up, rather dissapointed that after 30 odd years Uniden still haven't made a radio that out performs one of the old classics and I ended up selling it only a couple of weeks after buying it.
