How do I tell if the 800 is better or not? Some say it's not as steady. Is Amazon best place to buy erasers and lead?

The 800 has a slightly more aggressive grip and a more sharp, hexagonal body. However, the retractable tip is different; you have to twist the cap to move the tip. I think that the 800 is actually more steady compared to the rapid pro. If you only want to buy Mars plastic erasers and Pentel leads, Amazon is fine. But if you want something more specialized, jetpens is best.

Why does this one weigh so much more than the Rotring 600?

I believe it's because of the all-metal body
