Art A Children's Encyclopedia (DK Children's Visual Encyclopedia) : DK: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Absolutely worth it! - I have been waiting to get this book, being hesitant as I was wondering whether it was 'just another' Art Book that was lacking in some way. I'm so glad I finally decided to get it! It's wonderfully set out and comprehensive without being overwhelming for a 9 year old. It covers all the important periods in art, a good selection of the most influential cultures and artists, grand pieces of art highlighted (mostly paintings but short sections of sculpture and photography) and the illustrations are the next best thing to seeing the greatest works in a gallery, especially when most of it is virtual at the moment due to the circumstances. A pleasure to look at for children and adults alike, and containing a high standard of Bitesize information in all subjects covered, including life story timelines for each artist double spread. Review: An excellent introduction resource - A very sturdy and well made book. The text information is a long way beyond my three year old, however the pictures of the artworks in their many forms and styles make for some interesting browsing. There’s not a great deal on art forms other than paintings, with a small amount of the book dedicated to sculpture and so on toward the back. The book depicts art from many different essential movements, and also explores ancient and modern art. There are dedicated pages to well known artists, and showcases their most famous art. This is a great introduction to art that is lovely to look through.

ART for all who are a children at HEART
An excellent visual overview walk-thru the history of art complete with useful critiques & observations.Perhaps the most glaring omission being the significant still life genre ,which being ever- relevant does not fit the chronological approach used in this delght-filled book, uniquely & unusually illustrated with a good number of double page illustrations.

Informative and well structured.
Very nice book, informative and well-structured but sadly missing a few of our favourite artists and shorter than advertised. My 6 year old loves it.

Beautifully illustrated outline of art history.
Beautifully illustrated outline of art history. Should appeal to youngsters. Only downside: there is no reference to which galleries/museums house the various paintings.

Ottimo libro per introdurre l’arte ai bambini; la stampa ha un’ottima risoluzione e la composizione è moderna. Il fatto che per ora sia disponibile sono in inglese potrebbe essere un problema per qualcuno

In my opinion this publication is most suitable for my eleven year old grandaughters, it's concise and the photography/images not only compliments the text it elucidates what is being expounded.

Great way for an adult to get a broad understanding of different periods of art.

Excellent book for introduction to Western Art specifically Painting. Brought it for my son but ended reading it first. Not too verbose, emphasis is on history than criticism and you can enjoy the art on large size books. Key movement in paintings like Romanticism, Impressionism, Post Impressionism till Surrealism and abstract art forms are covered in nutshell with paintings. Images provided with the book give fair idea about the content and design of the book. Generally I dont like books from DK because of the cramped text and small font size. But this was surprise.
