this absolutely 100% works
This is the first product review that I've written on Amazon but I'm so impressed with the results I've had this head collar / lead that I had to write the experience up. I'm about 1 week in using this head collar and here is what I can say so far after such a short period of time. I can easily politely describe my 7 month old German Shepherd Mitzy as a problem dog. I've been taking her out for walks after she had all of her vaccination shots around the 12 week / 3 month mark and she's been dragging my arms out of their sockets ever since. I read that this is normal reaction to being on a lead for some dogs because they naturally like to pull against resistance but definitely not good for me because every walk used to be like a workout - on one particular occasion she moved forwards and then reversed in the opposite direction so fast that my left shoulder was in spasm for about a week. Mitzy has a tendency to get very agitated when she sees other dogs out walking. She tends to bark and lunge at other dogs and I'm afraid to say that on a few occasions she's scared the life out of other pedestrians with her barking and dragging antics. I had a false start with one of these Gentle Leader head collars that I bought from a local pet store; I left it on the worktop after taking it out of the plastic wrapper, turned my back for about a minute and Mitzy had pretty much eaten and destroyed it before we'd even had a chance to try it out. Undeterred, I bought another from Mr Pets on Amazon and I'm so happy I did. I won't lie, Mitzy really didn't like this on her head at first. She was twisting around and around trying to get it off. It took about 15 minutes or so of walking and talking her around the house and garden before I felt happy enough to have a go taking her for a proper walk. Once we were outside walking properly, she was instantly transformed from the dog on a lead that she'd been for months prior to this - the pulling was completely and immediately gone. On this first walk she occasionally stopped and would try and pull the lead off with her paws but with a little bit of gentle coaxing and a small treat, we'd be off again. Since that 1st walk she's been getting better and more used to the gentle leader every day. Mitzy walks right beside me to heel if I shorten the lead and there's always no pulling at all. Altogether she is a transformed dog when out walking and much less irritated and disturbed by other dogs on leads and other people walking close / coming up behind us. I feel more confident with her near other people on the pavement and she's altogether a lot calmer than she was. Prior to getting and using this collar I'd tried a control body harness, a half check collar and a training lead. I'd had minor success with the other things but this gentle leader collar really is the one. It's really easy to put on / get off quickly too which is great for reducing trauma in this area for both dog and owner at the start / end of the walk. 5 stars - fabulous.

Brilliant!
This is simply brilliant. It's the first nose lead which has actually worked! And seems to be more comfortable for the dog as well as with this one he doesn't attempt to remove it. Sizing is spot on (per chart) and it is well made. If your walks are currently ruined by being pulled/ dragged along by a dog which has no concept of a calm and leisurely walking pace, give this a try. You won't regret it.

Very happy, works well, but have now upgraded tona different design.
Really pleased with this product. My dog didn't mind having it on at all. She pawed at it once the very first time it was on and once more after I washed it and it shrunk a little so was a bit tight (ooops!), but it did relax again back to normal size after a short time! I paired it with lots of treats to get positioning right while on walks and it's made them an absolute joy. I was getting quite severe shoulder pain from pulling before I used this. My dog will walk to heal, but only for a short time and then I'd lose connection with her and she'd yank at the end of the lead. This corrected the issue as I had hoped. The instructions are endearing, if a little old fashioned. I did find it tricky to put on as the nose loop will always slip when it is not worn so you have to fiddle with it slightly to position it correctly before putting it on. The plastic clip seemed sturdy for what it is. I also bought a separate safety attachment as it didn't come with one, just to be safe rather than sorry. I've used it for a month now, but have decided to upgrade to a Halti, but the one with the separate loop around the nose and one underneath that tightens with pressure rather than the one with the same design as this. My concern with this one was that, although it didn't ride up into my girl's eyes when I had it correctly fitted, the loop would move slightly around her face if she was on one side of me for a while and that did bring it closer to her eye than I was happy with. I went for a head collar with more structure as a result. Having said that, the first time I used the new collar I attached the lead to the wrong bit and so there was no pressure on the head collar and she walked beautifully because she was used to wearing this one and walking so nicely! Overall I am really happy and it is very good value, especially as a way to check your dog will respond well without spending a lot. It made a big difference to walks, but does need to be paired with training in my opinion.

Great for dogs who pull.
Genuinely a fantastic product. I was highly sceptical but decided to try and was shocked on its effectiveness. Was being used on a 1 year old Labrador girl. Initially, she tried to swipe it off her nose. Got used to the straps very quickly ( same day ) now wears it every day with zero, I really do mean zero pulling. Before, a harness was about the best way to keep control of her without causing any discomfort but as she grew and got so much stronger, this became an issue for her and her breathing. No more harness is required. Simply this product is all we use now. Can't speak highly enough of such a simple little pair of straps. No, your dog is not muzzled Yes, your dog can chase and pick up balls, sticks and even eat, drink etc.. with this on with zero issues. No, it doesn't cause them any stress or "rubbing" even with 2-4+ hour walks. No, it's not tight and neither will it fall off. It's very comfortable in its fit. Product pretty much is as it's described. really lightweight, Good quality straps, will definitely last a long time with daily use and can be tailored to fit your exact dog breed perfectly. Given you bought the correct size for your pet

Works, but not perfect
Not my favourite to use for my labrador that pulls big time. It’s a thin, discreet design, and the fit is good and it’s sturdy but no padding on nose section. I recommend using with a regular collar or harness also as my dog slips this over her head with ease even though it’s a good fit. As lead attaches under chin, find that if she pulls one way, the halti twists uncomfortably round to the side of her face and gets a bit close to her eye for my liking. Also as it’s under her chin, makes it very easy for her to put head down to try and get the halti off.

Large dog fits Alabai dog 50kgs
This worked so well just as reported on the box, instantly my huge dog that is currently 10 months old and 50kgs was a pleasure to walk. He just stopped pulling which he had been doing since he turned 8 months and I fell and broke my arm. I had used a lead that attached to my waist since the accident however recently he had started to pull and was able to drag me over and into painful situations. A fellow large dog owner started using the halti with her dog with good results. I decided to give the gentle leader a whirl and I am astonished at the results. Bear just doesn't pull anymore for the majority of the walk. He is still a puppy and sometimes the need to greet someone overwhelms his good sense and he pulls but it is much less strongly. I paired the gentle leader with a Bunge lead and it's almost like magic. Word of caution. The gentle leader did slip off when my son used it and the dog ran off into the dark after who knows what. Found relatively quickly and I would always clip the lead onto both the gentle leader and the collar to prevent this happening again. All in all one of the best buys for this large breed dog. I intend to purchase another soon as I never want to be without this fabulous piece of kit. 😁🐕😁

Ineffective
well this was a real disappointment. I had high hopes of item. It arrived nicely packaged and is well made. Nice clear instruction book included. Unfortunately my dog doesn’t read so well. Fitted it following the instructions, and with a co operative dog it would work I think. However the whole point is for it to help manage a difficult one. My experience is that when I tried to use it with 8kg of writhing annoyed cairn terrier doing her best to pull the thing off it soon slipped out of position so did not do the job. I tried adjusting it in case it was too loose but even when a bit on the tight side , more than suggested in the instructions she still managed to haul it out of place and finally hanging off altogether. From the reviews other folks seem to have more success, so it might be worth trying it, maybe it will work for you, Amazon’s excellent returns policy makes it possible to try it. I shall have to return mine and try one of a different design, something which is stroppy little Cairn proof.

Excellent. Wish I hadn't put off using it for so long.
I have had this sitting in the cupboard for quite some time now, as I was certain my one year old border collie would absolutely hate it and I didn't want to freak her out or cause her distress in any way with something so new. She is rather skittish when walking along the roadside when on her harness by itself, so she will pull pull pull in order to get to the woods or home faster. Today I bit the bullet and thought I would give the gentle leader a try, and if she really didn't like it I would take it straight off. What can I say? I'm SO happy I tried it out today, and she did so well considering this was her first time having it on. She pawed at it a little bit, but after a little reassurance she didn't seem bothered by it at all. We went our usual walk and from the moment we left the house there was absolutely no pulling from her at all, even by the roadside. It was like walking a completely different dog! Not only am I happy that my arm is no longer being pulled out of the socket, but she actually seems so much more relaxed by the road than before. Just trotting along merrily. I also worried that it may dig into her snout, but because she didn't pull at all there were no worries there :) I will add I used this along with her harness, using a double ended lead attached to the harness and the gentle leader. I thought this would be a better introduction to it for her than just having the gentle leader by itself. That and I wanted the extra security, knowing that if she decided to paw it off that I'd still have her on the harness. This combination, I found, worked brilliantly :) So, we're both happy :) Win - win!

Great!!
This head collar has worked wonders on my dog with his pulling. He is an eight month old golden and we went with the large size. It fits perfect with tons of room to grow as it is very adjustable. He is so strong already that he can pull me around no problem and although I'm sure I was gaining some large muscles in my arms I prefer him better controlled. He is able to get the gentle leader off when he throws himself to the ground and rubs his face on it, but with some re-direction I can stop that. Great product.

Recomiendo.
Es muy bueno. Mi perro pesa 40 kg y soy mujer de 55 años. Así mas facil aguantar los tirones.
