The best traveling book series. Download his free podcasts for walking tours and other tourist sites. I especially appreciated the focus on not just Venice but the outside excursions like Padua and Verona. They're interesting day trips. Travelers who want more space for their currency/dollar are advised to lodge in Padua. The train trek between Venice and Padua is roughly 30 minutes.

Rick Steves Venice
I love a travel book that has everything you need and you never knew it! This is the best travel book out there. I’ve traveled over the pond before and learned more research was needed by me! I got this Venice book and couldn’t believe what I didn’t know about Venice and what I needed to look out for. Did I mention that transportation was clearly described that my first time over the pond friend thought I had been on buses, trains, and boat bus because it’s so clearly described in this book? This was the best trip I’ve ever had, I know it was because I learned what to do before I left and I was at ease! Thank goodness I remember to validate!!

Always reliable with Rick Steves
We’ve traveled globally and found many useful hotels, local guides and hidden gems through RS’s books. If you are looking for fine dining and luxury shopping you will need to do independent research, but RS hits the basics. The time durations for museums are a generous estimate but useful for blocking out an itinerary- of which he has a few samples depending on how long of a trip you will be taking. I find the pre-purchase ticket information to be especially useful. This way you can buy your museum passes ahead of time, book timed entries and guarantee more time exploring rather than waiting in ticket queues.

practical and detailed advice
Reintroduced to Rick Steves. Love the depth and ease of cross referencing through the book as well as how detailed and practical his walks, museum tours, boat rides all are. You could literally use just one book as a travel companion to plan and execute!

Rick Stevens is by far the best travel writer
I travel a great deal internationally for business. Rick Stevens has the best information for those quick trips in and out. Amazon makes it easy to get country specific books just before I travel.

Good not Great Book
Maybe it is because we never did find a good restaurant in all of Venice but the recommendations were not great. The information was good on the sites but the smaller pocket version we preferred.

Really helpful guide
Far too much information in this guide to use it all in one trip, but hoping to get more opportunities. The bits we did use were excellent, especially the Grand Canal Cruise using a standard water bus route and some of the walking routes.

Rick Steves is the best
Everything you want to know about your destination. The best part is suggestions for a day, two days, three days, or a week in Venice. Checked it before we went and daily while there.

Best-ever travel reviewer
Rick Steves has many, many travel videos on Youtube - and many guides & publications. His travel books are independent & regularly updated. I rely entirely upon him for accommodation, restaurant, and general tourist recommendations. There are great tips, maps, and walking routes. Whilst his books are written with the American market in mind (comparing prices back to dollars) they are entirely appropriate for travelers from any country. This review covers all his books - not just the Venice publication. Cant fault any of them.

OK. Probably good for first time visitors.
Concentrates on the main sights which is fair enough for first time visitors. I would not recommend for those who have been before. Maps are OK but not great.
