A suitable power lead is supllied with the unit. If your boat has any other instruments e.g. outboard engine starter motor, or VHF that requires 12 volt battery you can connect your GARMIN to the Sam'a battery. Otherwise you need to buy one. Such batteries also need recharging at least once a month even if you don't use them. I charge mine at least every ten days.
