NEW COLOR EDITION!!! Excellent for USMLE Board Review! A brief, clear, thorough, and highly enjoyable updated approach to clinical microbiology, brimming with mnemonics, humor, summary charts and illustrations, from Ebola to AIDS to flesh-eating bacteria; to mad cow disease, hantavirus, anthrax, smallpox, botulism, Clostridium difficile diagnosis and treatment; treatment of gonorrhea in light of growing antimicrobial resistance; Tuberculosis diagnostics, drugs for treatment of latent TB infection and MDR TB; the latest antibiotics; pandemic flu, including H7N9; SARS-like coronavirus; the latest hepatitis C treatment options; the latest HIV diagnostics and approved HIV meds; Zika virus; Measles and a new chapter on the latest emerging infectious diseases and drug resistant bacteria. * What makes this world renowned, best-selling Microbiology book so unique? Our Approach has been to: Write in a conversational style for easy, rapid assimilation Include numerous, humorous illustrations only when absolutely necessary, serving as "visual memory tools" and summary charts at the end of each chapter. These can be used for "cram sessions" after the concepts have been studied in the text Concentrate more on clinical and infectious disease issues that are both interesting and vital to the actual practice of medicine Create a conceptual, organized approach to the organisms studied so the student relies less on memory and more on logical pathophysiology. This last point is CRUCIAL!!! If there were no tests that required memorization in medical school, SKETCHY , memory-based medical study tools would be obsolete as they are ENTIRELY based on memorization, NOT understanding. This leads to a real life problem: When you need to conceptually and logically understand a patient's illness and speak to this patient or their family, a cute little SKETCHY memory trick will not get you very far. Microbiology Made Ridiculously Simple trains you early on in your medical career how to THINK, not how to memorize like SKETCHY does! Worth it.
It's pretty good, clear and simple explanations. The pictures aren't at sketchy micro level quality, but its very good as a reference

Best resource by far. Diamond in the rough
Wasted a ridiculous amount of time trying all the classic resources (Amboss, Boards and Beyond, Physeo, Osmosis, Bootcamp, Sketchy…) and this book stands out from the rest by a mile. It’s much more intuitively organized. I felt the combination of organism, antibiotic, virulence factor, mechanism, relevant immunology and disease all under each bacteria (instead of by section of the book) worked much better for me. All the factors that are separated in the other resources are together and directly associated with the organism. I feel like I already understand the mechanisms of the antibiotics before I have even reached that section of the book, because this covers them so well under each bacteria. It is an easy read and very approachable. I find this book to be at a reading level more appropriate for the average person, not for a lifelong academic. I can fly through chapters without feeling that mental burden drag me down. The illustrations are funny and lighthearted without being cheesy. There is no extra fluff. The book really focuses on high yield topics without burying it in a huge pile of extra detail. Book is a lifesaver. I would buy it again, but sooner if I could. This book and series is made to “just get to the point” and make it straightforward. This is a diamond in the rough

Way too funny!
I feel like a nerd because I actually enjoy reading this clinical microbiology book! Not only does this book offer valuable and updated information, but it’s also fun to read with all these hilarious tricks to help with my aging memory. I wish we had this book back in the days of med school.

DO NOT BUY HARDCOPY - it will fall apart in 1.5 weeks
Book is an alright comprehensive coverage of the basics in microbiology. Good for resource in medical school. HOWEVER, I highly DO NOT recommend the purchase of the physical copy of the book. Many other classmates also purchased this book and we all had the same problem. Within the first week and a half of use, the book's binding starts falling apart and pages start falling out, starting from the back. RECOMMENDATION: purchase or find an electronic version of this book, the hard-copy of the book will FALL APART on you; unless you have the money to buy another copy to use while you return your hardcopy that is falling apart during your micro section, likelihood is that your deadline to return/exchange the book will expire and you're left with a messy pile of paper you will be wasting money or time to fix.

Fun, accurate, helpful for MLS courses
If you are taking these classes you already know there is a ton of material, especially for the micro parts. This book has a ton of pictures, tables, and such to help you remember the stuff. This helped me a lot during my MLS courses.

Saved me during my studies in university
This is the best book to study microbiology I have seen so far. It makes understanding the learning matter super easy since e.g. the bacteria and their characteristics are illustrated with funny (memorizable) pictures and well written text. The difference between other books is that you can read one chapter and you'll have to lough out in between.. even though it's still about microbiology :) One might think that the quality of the given information might suffer but this is not the case! So if you are having trouble studying microbiology for e.g. your pre-clinics, this book is the right choice!
