Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: Illustrated Edition

This book is beautiful. My son loves Harry Potter. This is more fun for him to read and enjoy rather than the original paperbacks as this has lovely illustrations throughout to keep his attention. He is 9 and loves it.

As soon as I saw images of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: Illustrated Edition I knew I had to have it, as a huge fan of the series and someone who already owns several print versions as well as the ebook of each Harry Potter story there was no way I could miss out on this beautiful new edition. There is absolutely no point in me writing another review of the story (you can read my original one HERE) because I'm pretty sure that most of the people who are going to be looking at buying this book are already going to be Harry Potter fans so instead I'm going to focus on the quality of the book and the illustrations. To put it simply this book is STUNNING. I had high expectations but was totally blown away by how beautiful this book is, it brings back the magical feeling of reading Harry Potter for the first time and I think it's definitely a perfect edition to read with children. Jim Kay has done a fantastic job of giving new life to the characters, he's managed to make them his own (which must have been quite hard to do considering how well everyone knows the actors from the movies) while still making them instantly recognisable. The book itself is a lot larger than I expected and has me wondering if they'll have to publish the later books in more than one edition. The quality is brilliant with lovely glossy pages and gorgeous illustrated end pages. This is the kind of book that you want to treasure and it would make a perfect gift for any Harry Potter fan. I can't wait to see the illustrated editions of the rest of the series and will definitely be purchasing them as soon as they're published.

I've been a Harry Potter fan since I was ten years old. I have to admit that I am now thirty-two, I have a big beard, I've played drums in multiple heavy metal bands and I now have three children. So to paint a picture, I'm a bit of a hefty bearded metaller with little mini-me's causing havoc wherever we go but one thing will always stick with me and that is Harry Potter. It's such an escape. I have the books wherever I am. On my Kindle or on audible. The films I am exactly the same with, I've got then in Google play from the digital codes and also on Amazon Prime. I love the books and I listen/read them about two or three times a year. The illustrated versions are absolutely next level. There's the fantastic story by JK Rowling that we all so love but accompanied by these illustrations from this wonderful artist and they are beautiful. To elevate them even more is this digital version of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone where the illustrations are animated. An amazing achievement especially as it coincides with the magical concept in the books of moving images. I highly recommend this book and I am still waiting on a digital copy of the illustrated versions of the rest of them (even though I have them all in hardback). As soon as they are released I am on them like a fly on... Well... You get the idea.

The book is simply STUNNING! I love all the work they put into details, and how the illustrations come and complete the story! I can hardly wait for the rest of the series, I will definitely buy them all. The illustrations are rich in detail and plenty in number, so you will not be disappointed. It is the perfect present for a Harry Potter fan, so if you don't know what to get you dear ones this Christmas, this is THE gift. The paper is of very high quality, the pictures very clear and vivid, the dust jacket is gorgeous, well bound (with string stitches and glue), all meant to give the feeling of a deluxe book. Pretty heavy, which makes me wonder how heavy will the seventh one be? My only complaint has got to do with the way they packed it. No protective measures whatsoever. Just a simple cardboard sleeve-like wrapping. As a result, the book came with both the upper corners of the cover bent, and the page corners are also slightly bent. Considering it had a long journey to make (from UK to Romania), I would have thought they would pack it with more attention, to prevent it from transport damages. I would have liked to receive it in mint condition, but... you can't have everything in life, I guess. Next time I will specifically ask for a more sturdy packaging.

I have read some reviews on here regarding the quality. Unless they received fake copies (highly unlikely) they are talking nonsense so please ignore these Dudley-esque reviews. My dearly loved muggle father was a printer for 30 years and I was exposed to a large number of books. The quality of the paper, ink and print is superb. The dust cover is nice and the text is embossed, which gives it a classier look/feel. The hardback itself is red with the usual writing down the spine. The book follows the story with a drawing roughly on every other page. There is a shiny feel to the pages/drawings. In no way is this book childish. The art is classy and a fantastic edition to any potter fan. Would also make a fantastic book to read to a child as there are pictures to aid their imagination. From flicking through it appears to be the whole book (word for word). I could be wrong but it is big enough to be. Goodness knows how many Galleons the later ones are going to cost as they'll be much much bigger. This was purchased as a present for my girlfriend, who was raised on HP, and she will be over the moon(y) with it.

This is a great ebook on mobile, tablet, PC, etc. but so disappointing on readers like the Kindle, as not many of the images are included. The chapter titles have kept the artwork but it doesn’t look nice as B&W and greyscale. For a truly great experience, it must be viewed in colour. Also really liked the animations, did not expect that, but glad they’re there!

We all know J K Rowling’s epic story telling and the wonderful pictures she ‘draws’ with words so it is a big ask for an artist to add to that achievement. But Jim Kay really does meet the brief. His images are amazing and full of atmosphere. They vary from cosy domestic scenes, comic caricatures of key characters and simply awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping fantasy landscapes that rival the film for their power and depth. It’s a lovely book to handle and the quality of the paper and bindings are superb. I recommend this as a very special birthday gift for a child (or adult) who is being introduced to the Harry Potter series for the first time. This will,get them reading.

I got this for my wife who absolutely loves Harry Potter, she has ready the books several times in different languages and also listened to the Audio Books a lot of times. She was a bit skeptical about the illustrations at first, because, knowing the Harry Potter stories so well, she obviously has her own picture in mind when reading/listening to the stories, but she loves this book. The illustrations bring the story to life and add to the magic. They are absolutely true to the the story and fit perfectly. They are also not all in the same style. Jim Kay had done a great job. The book is a bit on the big side and therefore is quite heavy too, but I think the bigger size is important for the illustrations. Although my wife is an adult and absolutely loves this, I can see it appealing to children/young people as well or especially, as the added pictures grabs their imagination and add to the story. I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves Harry Potter already or is ready to fall in love with this gorgeous book.

Fantastic illustrations:) this book was an amazing introduction to Harry Potter world for my 6 years old son- now he’s loving it. The quality is high, the pages are thick and won’t get torn when flipped many times by tiny fingers.

Lo primero que llama la atención cuando llega el libro a casa es el tamaño, es literalmente enorme; me recuerda a los libros de fábulas que leía de pequeño en la cama. Las ilustraciones son maravillosas, los acabados perfectos, hasta el más mínimo detalle está pulido. Además, la calidad de las hojas y la cubierta es muy buena, es un libro hecho para durar (perfecto para niños o coleccionistas). Estoy encantado, sin palabras, nunca pensé que esta edición ilustrada me pudiese gustar tanto. La recomiendo y, de hecho, pienso regalarlo esta Navidad a un par de amigos y familiares que son seguidores de Harry Potter. Lo único que me parece una vergüenza es que la edición española cueste exactamente el doble que la inglesa. Los editores españoles... En fin...
