Canon WP-DC42 Waterproof Case for PowerShot SX220 HS and 230 HS

Bought this for my daughter's camera. She has used it extensively underwater at diving depths without any leaks or other problems. Easy to use camera controls

The Water proof case i chose as i already had the Canon sx230 camera which i am very pleased with and as i snorkel in the UAE it was the obvious choice. So far so good the images have been excellent and the usage of the housing gives me full acess to all the cameras function. Excellent piece of equipment.

This is a very sturdy case. I have little fear of water getting in when I'm snorkelling. It's a bit hard to figure out what button does what but to be honest I haven't used it as much as I thought I would (plankton bloom started the week I got it) so a little more use should familiarise things. It's an expensive piece of kit considering it's specific to one camera. But that's just the way with underwater housings I think so I can't complain too much. It's a big investment for a fairly specific product but if you're into snorkeling/diving and you want to take photos then this isn't likely to let you down.

Having had OEM housings for Olympus before, I tried with this cannon. Due to the cameras extreme zoom, this has a large square port, which is where the issues lie. You cannot get simple screw on filters etc, and the large air volume in the port makes it very prone to misting around the edge it seems - maybe its just mine? Unfortunately there is no where really to put a small silica bag and nothing listed by Canon, unlike the Olympus that had a slot and sold special silica bags sized to fit, even though it did not have the issue this canon does. The Perspex seems a bit soft and marks easily. Otherwise the good side is 100% functional control in a very easy manner and seems pretty well made - just not as good as the old Olympus housings (camera much better though!)

We have enjoyed many beach holidays; snorkeling and diving but have little in the way of pictures. Earlier disappointing trials with disposable underwater cameras put us off buying a housing. Two years ago when we last enjoyed a beach holiday, only a handful of people had a digital camera housing. We chose the Canon digital camera with an eye on the housing which we knew to offer good value. The camera lived up to our expectations and just prior to heading off on holiday this year we bought the housing through Amazon and as expected it arrived safely. The housing was easy to set up the camera controls seem more intuitive using the housing. The large camera screen is easy to use in the shallows and we've had it down to 31m (its rated for 40m). The flash really helps compensate for the loss of colour even when its not required in auto settings. To get the best results, we've learned that underwater photography requires preparation and lots of practice. Set the white balance, shutter speed and load the camera in an air conditioned room before venturing out or you'll likely need silica gel and anti fog spray to avoid condensation. Its also worth using it on the beach to simply protect the camera. We're really pleased with the results so far. Video is worth experimenting with as the results tend to be better. Probably because that format is more forgiving. The housing worked faultlessly. We have only memories of earlier holidays when we could have had pictures if we'd taken the plunge sooner.

Brilliant great housing make sure you grease the O ring ;) you get some silicone grease with it but i would buy a big tub !!! im using the 230HS inside and the pictures are fantastic

I have gone through three different camera housings (including Sealife which is absolute garbage). This Canon housing has to be the best on the market yet (for the price). I used it recently specifically for SCUBA diving and had no trouble. The pictures and videos are fantastic! The O-Ring is placed strategically around the hard plastic seal instead of in a groove, which makes looking for hairs, sand or debris easier to spot and clean. The door clamps tightly shut and opens with just enough effort to make you realize it is a waterproof fit. The buttons are a breeze to work and with only two dives I was very familiar with which button did what and how the dial worked. There was an issue with the SCUBA mode in which I wanted it to always flash, but whenever the camera turned off, the default of 'no flash' reset. This is a camera issue, but solved on each dive. Also, buy extra batteries as I went through a battery on each 45-minute dive. They are not the most efficient, but again, this is a camera issue. The kit does come with a neck strap and lubricant for the O-ring (be careful NOT to overdue the lubricant on the O-ring). Also, the GPS on the camera does not read through the case or underwater. The flash diffuser is necessary. After trying several shots with it and without it, it is clear that without the diffuser, a bright spot shows up in the upper left corner of the photo. The diffuser stayed on well even with only two small notches to fit and a thin cloth loop to wrap around the camera lens fitting. This could be improved a bit, but at least you won't break the diffuser by accident - a trade-off. I tried taking land shots with the housing on and was disappointed at the blurriness, even though the lens cover was very dry and clean. On a boat, you want to keep ALL water off the camera at any cost. It will be interesting to see how my skiing shots turn out this winter. The video was accidentally set to AUTO on one dive and the result was much more blue-wash in the video, but I was surprised at how good it still looked. With some more experimentation, I'll study the white balance to see if I can make the pictures even better, however, this housing is a real happy purchase for me.

Insgesamt ein sehr gutes Produkt, wenn auch etwas teuer (teurer als die Kamera, für die das Gehäuse konzipiert wurde). Man kann sich in Zeiten von GoPro & Co. natürlich streiten, ob es notwendig ist, ein solches Gehäuse zu kaufen. Das Produkt ist recht groß, im Vergleich zu Actioncams klobig und unhandlich, und teuer. Da ich aber nur gelegentlich tauche und keine Hobbys betreibe, die den Kauf einer Actioncam rechtfertigen würde, habe ich mir dieses Gehäuse für die "Kleine" geleistet (besitze noch eine DSLR), und bin bisher nicht enttäuscht worden. Der hohe Preis ist sicherlich ein Manko, aufgrund der Qualität (das Gehäuse besteht aus Polycarbonat, was sich u.a. durch Kratzfestigkeit, hohe Schlagzähigkeit und gute Lichtdurchlässigkeit auszeichnet) aber durchaus verständlich. Die Klobigkeit des Gehäuses ergibt sich natürlich aus der Größe der Kamera, die verwendet wird. Fazit: Wer, wie ich, nicht "Unmengen" an Kameras zu Hause herumliegen haben möchte, nicht so häufig tauchen geht und auch sonst keine "Actioncam-Hobbys" hat, für den ist dieses Produkt das Richtige.

En la publicidad exponen que con la carcasa se puede acceder ea todos los mandos de la cámara pero no es cierto.No se puede acceder algunos de los controles importantes para realizar fotofrafías en modo manual.
