The i9 7960x should do well with this Air cooler. **Q: Is this compatiable with Windows 8.1 or does it require Windows 10?** A: no windows 7 and 8.1 will not run properly on any x299 platform. there have been numerous reports of people running windows 7 and 8.1 but having issues such as updates and various others. the only windows version that will run properly on the x299 platform is windows 10. microsoft told intel to make ALL kabylake and skylake -x processors incompatable with all windows versions prior to windows 10. **Q: is this a skylake chip** A: While Technically yes, the actual answer is no, because they rebranded all the skylake processors int the X-series of processors. But if you're wanting to know if this is part of the family formally known as Skylake.. Yes it is. ## Frequently Bought Together - Intel Core i9 7960X - 2.8GHz Sixteen Core Socket 2066 Processor - Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD, 4 TB, PCIe 4.0, 7,450 MB/s read, 6,900 MB/s write, Internal SSD, For gaming and video editing, MZ-V9P4T0BW - MSI Z790 GAMING PLUS WIFI Motherboard, ATX - Supports Intel 14th, 13th & 12th Gen Core Processors, LGA 1700 - DDR5 Memory Boost 7200+MHz/OC, 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16, 4 x M.2 Gen4, 2.5G LAN, Wi-Fi 6E --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.pa/products/48956107-intel-core-i9-7960x-2-8ghz-sixteen-core-socket-2066](https://www.desertcart.com.pa/products/48956107-intel-core-i9-7960x-2-8ghz-sixteen-core-socket-2066) --- *Product available on Desertcart Panama* *Store origin: PA* *Last updated: 2026-10-11*
