There are few men who can truly be described as titans of literature. Joseph Conrad is one of them. From humble beginnings as the son of a dissident in Poland, to a life of adventure on the far corners of the globe, to at last a dignified position as an elder statesman of the English literary community, Conradโs personal story is as engaging as his writing. It seems both Conradโs life and his writing have sadly fallen from the public eye today. Conrad was, rightly, the most talked-about writer on the planet for decades during and after his life. His incredible stories and the characters in them captured the human condition with a degree technical and artistic perfection often imitated but never full captured again. This volume provides an introduction to Conradโs work for a new generation of readers. Inside are five of Conradโs best and most well-known stories, including Typhoon, The Secret Sharer, and Heart of Darkness, that offer a brief look into the world of Conrad. For casual and dedicated readers alike, Conradโs writing is insightful, entertaining, challenging, and, above all, unforgettable. Review: Excellent collection - Joseph Conrad gets conflated with his most famous work, Heart of Darkness, but his other works are equally or more valuable. This is a beautiful collection with a particularly stunning front cover that collects some of the other essential Conrad. Included are The Nord of the Narcissus, Typhoon (from which the cover art is drawn), Heart of Darkness, Youth, and The Secret Sharer. A wonderful insight into the human condition and Conrad's experience at sea dealing with the full spectrum of humanity. Review: One of the best writers to ever live - My first introduction to Joseph Conrad was a decade ago when I read Heart of Darkness. I forget why I picked up the book because I don't remember it being for school. Really enjoyed it and think of it to this day. Didn't realize there were so many great works written by Joseph Conrad until this collection was released. I assume it has something to do with one of the book's titles causing many professors not to teach his work. Let me assure you the title does not mean what you think it does and I would implore you to check out the entire Conrad collection as they are released. That being said this isn't every piece if literature that Conrad wrote but a collection of his best and most popular works. It is more of an introduction to one of the greatest if not the greatest writer who has ever lived.

Slightly disappointing presentation of a great collection of stories
I am old enough to have read Heart of Darkness in grade school, and was excited to get more Joseph Conrad stories to read. The book is well printed, with a pleasant, readable font and good spacing. Unlike a lot of products of small publishing outfits, the text isn't crammed into the center where you have to crack the spine to read it. The stories themselves are of course fantastic, and you will understand not only why Conrad was a literary legend, but why he has fallen out of favor in the Year of The Clown. My gripes with the presentation are that there isn't an overall table of contents for the volume, and that there's no context information provided by the publisher for each book. You don't even get a list of the books in the volume! Not on the back cover, not even in the introduction page. (Spoiler: They're The N***** of the Narcissus, Typhoon, The Secret Sharer, Youth, and The Heart of Darkness). The publisher did include the prefaces from Conrad if he offered one with the book, but nothing else. The publisher mentions how they've selected stories from a broad range of works from different points in Conrad's career -- which is great -- but it would have been nice to at least include the publication date for each story. It's a minor quibble and it's not worth docking a star over, but the lack of effort is disappointing. I hope they do a revision to Vol. 1 and put some more work into Vol. 2, which these stories surely deserve.

Valuable collection of Conrad's best works
This edition of Conrad is an exceptional value. The story selection and ordering illuminate not only Conrad but the present day. The print and binding quality are also good, and justify the small cost for a physical copy of these public domain works. You should own this book because Conrad is worth returning to again and again.

Excellent Quality Collection
Nicely done compendium of some of the best stories Conrad wrote including of course, Heart of Darkness as well as Typhoon and The Secret Sharer. If you or someone you know likes (or might like) Joseph Conrad this book is a great place to start and a great addition to any collection.

wow, love this memory
I recently purchased Joseph Conrad: The Masterworks (Vol. I) Paperback and was blown away by the collection of stories included in this volume. "The n***** of The 'Narcissus'" was a gripping tale of adventure on the high seas, while "Typhoon" and "The Secret Sharer" both kept me on the edge of my seat with their thrilling narratives. "Youth" and "Heart of Darkness" were equally impressive, offering deep insights into the human condition and exploring the dark corners of the human psyche. Overall, I highly recommend this collection to fans of Conrad's work, as well as anyone looking for a captivating read.

Excellent physical quality
Book has a very solid construction, the cover has a delightful texture, the page material feels high quality, and the print is perfectly sized and easily readable. Not much more you can ask for in a volume of collected works. The collection contains 5 works, all of which are excellent, and all of which you will have to find yourself by flipping through pages because the book lacks a table of contents. Maybe later editions can include an easier way to find the beginning page of each story so the reader can jump to the one they want to read, like a ToC or a different color for the page.

Nice collection from Conrad. Great selections!
Very much enjoyed this collection. Includes some of Conradโs works Iโd never read. I This is a great value for the expense. I particularly enjoyed the first story in the collection. You may need to purchase to see why.

Beware the French Rooster
I, a cheeky young lariken was laying under a nice shady gum tree dozing after a long day of reading Peter Kemps Mine Were of Trouble: A Nationalist Account of the Spanish Civil War. As I dozed away I caught the scent of fresh coffee and as I opened my eyes a French rooster stood before. A note was attached to his right foot, upon opening it a message written in delicate handwriting "Buy the new Joseph Conrad: The Masterworks (Vol. I) or else". At first I scoffed at the note and threw it away, content to continue my slumber, when from the corner of my eye a red light appeared. I turned over to see a red laser dot on my bottle of Coopers Original Pale Ale! In panic I stood up and yelled out into the bush "I'M SORRY I WILL BUY YOUR BOOK!". As the echoes of my desperate plead sounded throughout the vast bushland, the little French rooster turned and walked away with ominous red dot disappearing with him. Days later after receiving my new copy of Joseph Conrad: The Masterworks (Vol. I) I DEFINITELY took the book to my study and DEFINITELY read it cover to cover immediately. All in All a fantastic addition to any mans bookshelf from the wonderful Mystery Grove Publishing Company! P.S. Looks great on the shelf next to Always with Honour by Pyotr Wrangel.

Wow
Without further ado here is the review of Joseph Conrad The Masterworks Volume one. Please read the reviews in order if you want to get an understanding of the right. First of all you need to be getting bigger. You need to be hitting the heavy bag. You need to be buying the books. I love my family and am not being held at gunpoint. Before I bought the books I felt as if my life was immediately about to end. I just remember that quote from True Detective season two ( highly under rated and filtered many):" Wake up Ray everything is ending". I was approached by a short marine with a very attractive wife, he asked me not to name him and he looked concerned for his privacy as he was on the phone with his lawyer. This guy looked like he could handle himself and had the skills to make a really nice obscure publishing company in the bay area. I was approached by different people since buying this: An alt right Mexican, a short Asian lady, and a guy on a laptop sitting in a Shake Shack. Every night I feel like we're going to win. I now wish to live my life in the Guatemalan mountains living together and working together and creating together. I felt no pressure to buy this but a great sense of relief when I did.

I BOUGHT THE BOOK OKAY?
The publisher said he would give me a wedgie if I didn't buy the book. So far he's held up his end of the bargain

Cool compilation of an important and underead author
Joseph Conrad was one of the most important writers and stylists in the English language for the late 19th century. Read all of the stories of this collection IN ORDER if you want to truly understand the world we live in today.
