I should know, I’ve tried them all!I am doing the Simplicity plan (4 bars a day, no additional food). I find losing weight this way so much easier than the conventional way. It’s hard to start with but soon, taking out the complication of eating and cooking and calories and choices becomes a bit of a relief. People who have struggled with binge eating will know what I’m talking about! With this plan, the only choice is which meal replacement you pick.Each bar is around the same amount of calories, about 160, and contains 25% of your RDA of vitamins and minerals. So, it’s not the same as a chocolate bar.My favourite are the crispy caramel bars as they’re substantial and filling and I think taste the best.The muesli type bars are really nice for breakfast and the praline (truffa for the old timers!) are a nice evening snack with a hot drink.There was a replacement in the box for some strawberry ones, I’m allergic to strawberries so haven’t tried those ones. I think they replaced the mint ones which are really nice.The lemon bars are quite strong lemon. They’re creamy and soft- don’t let them get too warm or you’ll get messy!Choc orange are nice too, a bit of a change and still delicious.I find that the milk choc, dark choc and chewy choc bars all quite similar in taste and texture but I like them all.Don’t expect a chocolate bar that tastes like a mars bar or a muesli bar like off the shelf. But these are a million times better than the dusty, bitter alternatives. They genuinely taste good.I’ve lost 4kg/ 8.8lbs in just over a week. I’d definitely recommend the bars to anybody who is willing and prepared to do a VLCD. I take a general multivitamin just to make sure I’m not kidding out on anything, but my evening meal contains a good balance of protein and vegetables.I eat in this way to maintain my weight and to help shift about 7lb that I gained early on in lockdown, as I don’t exercise much and I find that knowing each bar is 200 cal or so, takes away the need to weigh or measure food.I’ve had these bars over the last 3 days and tried the muesli, lemon, chocolate crisp and orange chocolate, they’ve been equally as good as the more expensive brands and having a big selection of flavours is great as I tend to get bored of the Slimfast ones as the variety of flavours wasn’t great.One thing I noticed is that I feel fuller for longer with these bars that with other 200 calorie bars, I’m not sure why, I think they’re maybe a bit higher in Protein or more dense, but with a big mug of decaf and one of these, I don’t feel the same rumbling tummy an hour later and I’m comfortable until my next bar or meal, so have helped with ‘picking’If you’re looking for a pleasantly flavoured, calorie controlled bar, which is fortified with vitamins and minerals , then I’d give these a go.
