With the button, is it click on and off or is it hold to use? Bit stupid if its hold to use.

Click on. One cluck full brightness a second click half brightness then press again to turn off.

Is it compitable with Makita 18V 4.0Ah battery?

No. Compatable with all DeWalt XR 18V style batteries only.

On the label on the side of the torch does it say type 1 or types 2?

It says type 2. The picture is misleading as the light comes without the battery.
