Can anyone confirm if this has gps or not?

No internal gps for navigation purposes. Has gps for monitoring location and will save footage and location & speed after an impact.

can anyone confirm if this actually has GPS?

It has gps. It locks down and saves footage on impact. Records on all three channels. This is a stand alone cam. No app. No compass. Use a separate device for navigation

Can you playback video or watch the video on the mirror itself?

Yes, there is no need to remove the chip unless you want to save or download the video. You can view all the videos on the screen as well as save or delete a 128 mb holds several days of footage. I am an Uber driver, so I clear mine regularly. Hope this helps.
