Will these make my chair lower when I replace the wheels?

Really depends on the size of the wheels on your chair. With so many different sizes available regarding wheels.. These feet are approx. An inch and a quarter in height once installed on a chair.

can I switch wheels back on easily, I would be using the chair maybe 40 still/60% rolling and need to know how hard or long it would take to change?

I change them out easily in fact I didn't like them because I couldn't move the chair when I need to I had to lift it to move

How do I get the old wheels off so I can mount the glides?

They are just pressed in there. Pull hard or you might try a thick pointed straight screw driver. Be careful as it would be easy to scar up your legs. I had one I just clamped a vice grip to and hit the vice grip with a hammer. It didn't damage the chair but destroyed the wheel. Good luck!

How well do these slide on carpet?

My order came w/ slide resistant stickers for the bottom of each peg, so if you use those: very difficult to slide in carpet! But w/out, not that difficult to move. 1st time I've found peg glides to replace standard size wheel pegs. A miracle actually.
