Hand Wool Spinning Starter kit - Includes Drop Spindle, Instructions and 4 Shades of Heritage Sheep Wool rovings

Great kit that would make a brilliant gift for the right person. The wool fibres are lovely quality and up to weight. I found I could peel away the right widths of roving to do minimum drafting. They also smell nice and clean sheepy. The spindle is well made with a properly placed hook to allow the yarn to come out dead centre. I do get a bit of a wobble though, which has stopped me from moving on past the 'park and draft' stage. I haven't yet got to unsupported drop spinning. I have produced several balls of s twist yarn, because it seems to crochet better and I find it easier to flick the spindle right handed that way. As a beginner, I found the instructions adequate, but used the internet a bit for videos and tutorials.

I haven't mastered this hand spinning stuff yet as I keep making my wool too thin, however this is a brilliant set. The spindle is well balanced and the wool is good quality. There is a strong smell that comes from the wool, I have no idea what it is but if you don't leave the box open in a well ventilated room for a few hours you can go a bit heady. I love it and I'm still practicing spinning, the rewarding feeling is well worth it.

I got this starter kit as a Christmas present but managed to lose it, so I bought it again. I still haven't found the original, so not being able to compare side to side but from memory, the wool in my new order is better quality and colours are more even... and I have a feeling that the first kit also had less wool. I have never done any spinning before so I took my kit to spinners meeting and everyone said how nice the wool is and they demanded to know what breed was used. I didn't read the instructions as I prefer watching videos and I was lucky enough to get help from experienced spinners: I don't know if this TIP I was given by them is included in the booklet: always spin clockwise. This is because the direction of the scales helps the fibers to lock together more firmly and make stronger yarn. I was lead to believe that a spindle without a notch is more difficult but I did not find it a problem at all - maybe it is the case with more slippery yarns. The spindle is also well-balanced and spins without any wobble even in my hands. I have also ordered a spindle with a notch so it will be interesting to see if it makes any difference. Overall, I am very pleased with this as a beginner kit. There are videos online on how to get started but there are people who haven't discovered YouTube, so I think the instructions could benefit from a couple of images to help them out. EDIT: after spinning the first lot, I found that the disk has come loose. Not only it could fall off but more experienced spinners in a guild meeting agreed that it makes spinning the spindle more difficult, at least until I have enough yarn on the spindle to fix it in place. I would have contacted the seller for advice but Amazon seems to have taken that feature off.

This is a very well made drop spindle, a lovely weight to get started on and very sturdy too. It is also well finished with no sharp edges. The wool that comes with this kit is enough to practice a lot of spinning. The kit arrived easily on time and well packaged, and the box is very useful for keeping it all together in. I haven't had to use the instructions as I've mostly looked at online tutorials so I can't comment on that, but the rest is brilliant and would make a lovely present for anyone interested in learning to use a drop spindle.

Useful instruction leaflet and plenty of lovely natural fleece to practice with; perfectly functional drop spindle all nicely packaged in a sturdy box. It would make a very nice gift for someone who wants a new hobby - the accompanying fleece spins up to a useful amount of wool yarn for an existing knitter or crocheter. When you've spun the accompanying fleece, a great many more types are available from a range of sources at extremely reasonable prices - you could spin yourself an entire woolly wardrobe!

Received my order this morning and it is perfect, the drop spinner is good quality and the roving wool is lovely and soft. As a beginner this kit is perfect and well worth the money.

Lovely spindle, lovely wool, but the instruction booklet was missing pages 2 and 7, because pages 4 and 5 were printed twice. There are many videos on YouTube about drop spindles so I'll be fine, but for a starter kit its a shame to see a mistake like this.

Die Wolle ist sehr weich und mit den unterschiedlichen Farben kann man das Mischen ausprobieren. Ein schönes Set.

Preso questo kit per mia figlia che voleva imparare a filare. Buon prodotto, arrivato nei tempi stabiliti. Il fuso è di buona qualità e la lana ha una buona cardatura e quel profumo di pecora che rassicura sulla qualità.

Me encanta... Claro, que no tengo nada experiencia todavía, pero me parece bastante fácil de manejar y la lana esta, no solamente suave, pero también bastante bonita... Estoy practicando un poco cada noche, y hasta ahora me gusta mucho mas que he imaginado...

2019 hatte ich das Set bestellt, warum auch immer landete es erst einmal in meiner Handarbeitsecke. Und hatte es glatt vergessen, bis ich es diese Woche wiedergefunden habe. Ich habe mich sofort ran gemacht und bin begeistert. Die Wolle ist schön weich, mir gefallen auch die Naturfarben sehr. Die Spindel ist auch ganz gut (soweit ich als blutiger Anfänger das beurteilen kann). Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Set und spiele mit dem Gedanken, meiner Freundin auch eines zu kaufen. Die Anleitung ist in Englisch, aber es gibt genug Seiten und Videos im Netz, die auch in Deutsch erklären, wie das funktioniert.
