Maypole 1m x 3 mm Red PVC Breakaway Cable For Braked Trailers and Caravans

TL;DR: Bought these because I consistently drive off with the breakaway cable still attached. They are cheap enough that it barely matters when it happens again, and it will happen again. If there were a support group for people who forget to unclip their trailer breakaway cable before driving off, I would be chairing the meetings. These are the inevitable consequence of that particular character flaw and at this price for a two pack the financial damage is mercifully limited. Fit is correct, quality is fine, does exactly what a breakaway cable needs to do. Easy to use - fitting takes about ten seconds, which is fortunate given how frequently I need to replace them. The honest review is that I have no idea how long these last under normal use because mine never get the chance to find out. What I can tell you is that they snap cleanly when subjected to the full force of a Land Cruiser pulling away from a horse trailer, which is presumably the point. Subscription order would genuinely be more efficient at this stage.

The cable was very strong, the only problem I found was the O ring was larger than I expected and was too big to fit on the hand brake.

Took a bit of a punt on this as it seemed so much cheaper than one from a stockist, I wasn't expecting much but boy was I wrong. Good thick cable and very robust fittings, it took about one minute to fit on my ifor Williams trailer as it fits directly to the bottom of the manual hand brake. I will definitely buy another one of these when I undoubtedly forget to unhook it before driving off like I did the last time.

This karabina-type breakaway cable is a quality replacement for the original equipment fitted to Al-Ko and BPW chassis, and at probably half the price. It can be directly hooked on to a suitable attachment point on the tow vehicle, unlike the spring-clip type of cable, which must be looped back on itself. The strong split-ring at the handbrake connection is a bit fiddly to fit (gloves, a wide screwdriver and thin-nosed pliers are recommended to avoid skinned knuckles and foul language!), but still easier to fit than the hook-type connection on the Al-Ko product, which really needs a portable vice to close it up. Just remember to disconnect the split-ring first, and feed the cable back through the guide hole under the caravan/trailer drawbar, then reconnect the cable loop and split-ring at the handbrake end.

Bought this to replace the one on my caravan which was a bit tired looking, but I'd also seen in Caravanning and Camping Club magazine that the older spring clip type are not strong enough to hook on to your tow ball eye and will fail if you do! They recommended that type should only be looped back round the tow ball and clipped back to its own cable. This new type with carabineer clip is much stronger and can be securely clipped on to the breakaway cable connection eye (if yours has one), without the worry of the old type lifting over and off the tow ball.

Purchased to replace a tired breakaway cable on our caravan due to the coating being worn and broken in places. Great replacement although not the easiest to fit as the ring clasp is very tight but now its fitted I am confident it will do the job and looks so much better Took less than 5 mins to fit so overall pleased with purchase

L'anneau est plus grand que mon ancien câble et... tant mieux, car j'ai pu y glisser la patte d'un tourne vis pour écarter l'anneau; S'il avait était plus petit, imaginez la force de pression à donner pour écarter un demi centimètre l'anneau ?! Qui plus est, le diamètre de l'anneau est robuste, le rapport entre les deux est bon. Le colson est de dernière génération, avec une pointe en forme de stylo qui évite de faire les choses à moitié. Pour information : Si le véhicule et la caravane se détachent en roulant, ceci peut s'avérer extrêmement dangereux. C'est pourquoi toutes les caravanes sont équipées d'un câble de rupture du frein à main. Ce câble garantit l'application du frein à main de la caravane en cas de détachement de la caravane du véhicule en cours de route. Le câble de rupture du frein à main est fermement fixé au véhicule et serre le frein à main lorsqu'il est mis sous tension. Dans la majorité des cas, ce câble peut être relié à un œillet de fixation spécial de l'attelage. Le frein à main de la caravane est serré et la caravane s'arrête progressivement, permettant de diriger le véhicule sans entrave pour pouvoir l'arrêter en toute sécurité.
