Good sound, great battery life, well built, can run from USB power with right cable - ordered another!
We bought this to replace a basic little noise maker, and we're very impressed. It feels good quality, has a good range of sounds, but most importantly, the sound quality is good, and includes lower notes rather than being a horrible tinny sound like the cheap little thing we used to use. Battery life is most impressive. We received this exactly two weeks ago, and since then, we've used it every single night, from around 7pm to around 8am, and it's only tonight that the batteries need changing - it's "looping" the sound after a few seconds with a brief pause. So, that's in the region of 170 hours continuous usage from a single set of batteries - can't complain about that! However, if you don't want to use batteries, the power socket on the back takes a 5.5mm/2.1mm DC jack (5.5mm outer diameter, 2.1mm inside) - quite a common plug. It's marked as needing 6V input, but I tried with a USB to 5.5mm DC jack cable, and it was quite happy to run on the 5V that USB supplies - so conveniently it can be plugged in to the 5-way USB charger I have by the bed already for my phone, Kindle and tablet, rather than requiring an additional power supply. So, if you picked up something like this CableDeconn USB to 5.5 mm/2.1 mm 5 Volt DC Barrel Jack Power Cable or anything similar, it will run fine from a USB socket - useful to know, I think. We like it enough that we ordered a second one, since our son had just moved into his own room, so we could use one in his room and one in our own. Both units have been used all night, every night since May (so 5 months at time of updating this review) and both are still going strong. We like noise generator machines like these as they help drown out background noises etc, helping the kids get restful sleep without startling at little noises. I even like it myself, as I find myself mentally tuning in to anything I do hear - neighbours moving around, muffled voices out on the street, etc, but with this going, it masks them for me. Our favourite is the sea waves setting, but there's a good range of options available.

Eases into sleep....
Excellent in my experience.... helps to go to sleep. Simple to use. Unobtrusive. I love the ‘rain-sound’. Even a low volume works for me. The 30 minute timer is a great idea. That’s all I seemed to need but one could leave it all night if plugged into mains. Lovely invention for at least getting off to sleep for those of us suffering tinnitus but also for anyone to try having problems to relax into sleep

Not bad, not great.
Firstly the product - Its decent, you get what you pay for, sounds are a bit repetitive which you'd expect but on a 5 second loop? surely they could have stretched to 10 seconds at least, but overall it does the job especially if your looking to trial this method of white noise products rather than dive in with the expensive ones, what I really appreciate which not all products have is the 30min timer. Secondly the service - Don't really know where to start, everything would be fine except the courier they use which is "Hermes", without going into every detail I'll just sum them up, my delivery should have taken a few days ......... I received my item nigh on 3 weeks later and that was only when it had been sent by Royal mail at my request, I never did receive the one from Hermes.

naturecare sounds machine
This surprising little device gives you a choice of 7 nature sounds. It can be described as a relaxation aid, utilizing pleasant repetitive sounds. It has an excellent optional feature of a timer allowing you to switch it on at the bedside and after half an hour will turn itself off. The volume can be adjusted and it will work on either mains or 4 AA batteries. It is claimed by the accompanying leaflet that the mechanism does not wear out, unlike tapes and CDs. I will comment on each of the 7 sound choices. From left to right are the 7 buttons. Firstly heartbeat is intended to relax babies and very young children. Secondly sea waves is ocean sounds but there is a slight barely audible beep detectable in the background. Thirdly brook is the sound of a rushing stream, one of my favourites. Fourthly birds is a pleasant interesting option that is also intriguing for pet cats! It has a relatively short repetition cycle. Fifth, woods gives you birds and chirping and hum of insects. Sixth, white noise is the rather vague continual rushing sound. I was disappointed in this one, hoping for more variation as in a wind sound. Finally rain is in my opinion one of the best choices.

Not that good...
This machine was a let down, for some reasons. 1) the sound quality is just okay, to say at best, though the machine it's not that expensive, so you shouldn't hope for hi-quality sounds, like an mp3 playing at 128kpbs, actually it's much lower than that. 2) the samples, though are taken from real envroiments, only last for 5 seconds, which means it's a 5-second-loop sound effect that gets annoying in less than a minute. If it were longer, for example, 1 minute or 2, it would be harder to notice the loop effect. since it's only 5 seconds, I gets completely artificial and the effect gets all but relaxing 3) if you suffer from tinnitus like me, the white noise may help you and you won't notice the repetition effect, but again, it's not a very relaxing sound, it's more a null-tinnitus-frequency effect that may help because it masks your tinnitus. If the silence of your bedroom, at night, makes you feel uneasy, or disturbing, you may consider getting a radio instead, but if the music distracts you and you really prefer sounds of nature, one of those nature CD's you buy on the nature/ethnic/zen stores would do much more, though it would cost you more, since you need at least a small hi-fi system in your bedroom. This device can be good for children. The heart beat sound is the more natural one, considering it's a constant sound by itself, so 5-second loop or 1-minute loop would sound pretty much the same thing, but as for the other sound effects, they are so short that, again, the result it's a completely annoying, frustrating, artificial loop effect that goes against what you look when you try to fall asleep. And to finalize, the device itself isn't pretty in looks. Looks better in small pictures than in real life, when you unpack it. If you look for relaxing sounds of nature, this will not do at all. Sorry :-(

Use to help with tinnitus
The white noise setting at a low volume has been very helpful at night when my tinnitus was troubling me. Certainly helped me sleep -so would recommend this product for a low price aid.

Very pleased with this machine
This is a really good machine. I was looking for a good wave sound, and rejected so many I heard on the internet as the wave sounded too "crashing in a storm" and not very relaxing. This one has a calming wave sound like on a sandy shore and is ideal to relax to. The other sounds are good too. And it is very easy to use. I'm glad I bought it. Update 24.11.11 - I've just bought another one - my daughter is using my old one!

Helped my daughter to settle, after years of bedtime trauma.
This sound machine was recommended by hearing therapy for my 8 year old daughter, who has auditory processing problems and tinnitus. It has changed our lives, for the first time in 8 years she is sleeping. We have tried everything and this sound machine has helped her cope with the noise in her head, reassured her that night time is not a scary time and helped her settle, even if she wakes during the night. It has a self timer, so she can switch the sound machine on and fall asleep. It will switch off after an hour. It worked for us and I have recommended it to other Mum's to help settle their children.
