Turns out my child is smarter than meโฆ
I bought this thinking it would be great extra practice for my Year 5 child. What I didnโt expect was the crushing realisation that I now struggle more with the comprehension questions than they do. Nothing like being shown up by a ten-year-old when you canโt quite explain why the author used a certain phrase โfor effectโ. Jokes aside, the book is excellent โ clear passages, sensible questions, and just the right amount of challenge without reducing anyone to tears (except maybe me). My child happily works through a couple of pages at a time, and I can honestly say itโs already making a difference to their reading and confidence. Warning: if you have fragile adult pride, you might want to keep a cuppa ready. Nothing softens the blow of being corrected by your kid like a strong tea.

Variety of fiction and non fiction texts.
I love this series of comprehension book, they not only address a variety of skills but also provide lots of discussion opportunities. This is a resource well suited to adult in put to gain the most from the texts but also suited to learners working independently with some easy and other thought provoking questions to respond to.

Challenging but Excellent for Developing Comprehension Skills
I bought this book for my Year 4 son, who is an advanced reader for his age and enjoys reading a wide range of books independently. Although he can understand the texts well, he initially found the comprehension questions quite challenging. What I realised is that the difficulty was not in understanding the passages themselves, but in becoming familiar with the style of the questions and learning how to structure answers using appropriate literary vocabulary and analytical skills. The exercises are thoughtfully designed and provide excellent practice in developing deeper comprehension and critical thinking. While demanding at times, they have helped to strengthen his confidence and improve his answering techniques significantly. I would recommend this book to parents who want to support their child in developing higher-level reading comprehension skills.

Varied texts but very challenging in some cases
The comprehension texts were varied. I have all 4 workbooks as work with children of different ages and abilities. I found the texts a bit difficult for this age group and am using book 3 and 4 with much older children than age 9-10 or 10-11
