The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Linguistics 3/e

Bought to use alongside studying World of Englishes through the Open University. Typical of Oxford Press - concise and easy to follow. Certainly helpful. It is a linguistics dictionary though, do not buy if you're expecting a standard dictionary!

I brought this book to save flicking though multiple books for definitions. It is really helpful as the definitions are concise. A couple of pages stuck together but didn’t ruin the book.

smaller than what i expected.. very light but useful.. recommended

I'm learning terms related to the linguistics field, and this is helping me so much. Normal dictionaries don't include any of these definitions.

初版（1997）。第２版（2007）、今回の第３版（2014）で着実に版を重ねている英国でも評判のよい言語学辞典。第３版で約100項目が追加され、総見出し語項目は3250となった。パラパラめくって読むとおもしろい項目が見つかる。たとえば、CGE = A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language…とある。確かCGELと言っていたはずと思って、CGELを見るとCGEL=The Cambridge Grammar of the English Language… とある。いつの間にとって代わられたのか。これまでは Pullum et al.(2002)とかCambridge GELとかいっていたと思う。lexicographyの定義はthe writing of dictionaries, for practical use or any other purpose; distinguishable as such from lexicologyである。 この辞書はlexicographyに「辞書編集」の意味しか認めていないようだ。などなど。傍らに置いておくと何かと便利で面白い発見がある。
