Standard titration kit for fryer oil
I sometimes deep fry foods and clean/filter my oil after every use, typically tossing the oil as soon as it smells off, but wanted a more scientific way to check the safety of old oil. This is a standard titration kit that measures oleic acid/free fatty acid content of fryer oil. I was surprised to see that my fryer oil, which I was thinking was too old to use any more, was well within the safe range. I think this kit is most useful for people who deep fry in a tempura pot or enameled cast iron pot since it's much harder to keep the oil clean in a manual frying setup, and those burned bits are a big contributor to oil rancidity. For anyone who reuses frying fats this is a cheap safety measure, and you will either figure out it's time to get rid of that ancient pot of bacon fat you've been using for a year or will save money not sending gallons of perfectly good frying oil to the hazardous waste center.

Useful
This is great for keeping track of the usefulness of your oil when you're in between frying. I love this because I have an electric fryer and it has a deep basket with a black colored-interior. This means that I sometimes struggle to see how my oil looks without the trouble of pouring it all out and I just have to assume. This also means that sometimes my oil gets tossed when its still pretty good because I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of pouring it back in and starting over. These strips are so simple to use but super effective. I can keep track of the usefulness of my oil so that it only gets tossed when its outlived all its usefulness. I took off a star because the instructions clearly state that this tool is sensitive to light and heat and to keep it tightly capped and secure but when it arrived in the mail it was slightly popped open (I think it happened during transit). As a result I was really worried it wouldn't work at all. As such I'd recommend to them to put one of those security tabs you sometimes see included in sensitive things like prescriptions and etc. that require you to pull the tab and peel to even be able to open the bottle or tube at all. I think if it had that then this problem wouldn't happen. Super useful and I love how small and compact this is, I can just pop it in a drawer till I'm ready to use.

They seem to do what they are supposed to
These test strips, unfortunately, are the kind of thing that are a bit difficult to properly and fully evaluate due to the fact that I don't have an objective means of verifying their accuracy. What I did do, because it was the only thing I could come up with, was to test a bit of unused, but slightly old oil with one of them and got a result that was not at the "best" end of the scale (I expect because it is a little past it's prime) but not in the "get rid of it now!" range either... basicallly it tested right where I felt it should have, so I have decent confidence that they do what they say they do. Should I encounter anything to change my mind I will update this review, but I am satisfied at this point. Recommended!
