All the kitchen knives are now incredibly sharp, as are my outdoor knives. The additional blade guide is a great help in getting a feel for how to position your blade for the optimal sharpening angle. I was able to use these whetstones to take chips out of the edge of the blade and return them to a new condition. Although the skill of sharpening improves with experience, I found that performing 100 strokes (eg. on each side of the blade) on the 1000 grain stone, 30 strokes on the 6000 grain, and 50 on a leather strop (or belt) provided razor sharp edges. My next purchase will likely be a dressing stone to keep these whetstones in excellent, flat condition. Great product, great price. Stones arrived in excellent packaging and without any marks.
