It looks pretty transparent for a top snare head base from the images of those who purchased the item...** A: This is a bottom head for a snare drum and why it is thin. You can get different thicknesses of snares side heads to achieve different a sound. **Q: What factors would you consider for choosing the size of this drum?** A: I would consider first the type of music I am playing it for. Woods have different tonal effects, so I will consider the material of the drum shell. Then I consider the top side head. Evans makes above average grade drum heads for sure.
