I waited and waited and read many reviews and finally bought this during prime deal days and I’m so glad I did! Some say it’s runs loud, but it doesn’t bother me. It’s in the kitchen, not my bedroom. I bought the XL tank and love everything about it. I was worried the ice would melt quick in my glass, but it doesn’t. Just buy it! Update 4 months later- I have a love hate relationship with this machine. I get “add water” multiple times a week (sometimes multiple times a day) even when the tank is full. I read online the water line can get air bubbles, so I have to lift the tank, open the drawer then shut it and hold tank for 30 seconds or so to get it going. Gets SO annoying. Cleaning is a pain. I’ve leaked so much water everywhere doing it. Finally this most recent time I think I got the hang of it. Lately machine has just shut off a few times. Ugh. Could be a melted ice mess if I hadn’t noticed. On the positive side, I still don’t think it runs “loud”. It’s in the kitchen so it doesn’t bother me at all. Update 6 months later- I completely removed the side tank. So much better and also easier to clean. We have a family of 4 and I only have to add water a few times a week. Much easier and also smaller and fits better in the corner of the kitchen with out the side tank. 18 month update- still going strong and still not using the side tank. I did have a squeaking issue but I googled it and found it needed to be completed defrosted. So I did that and let it sit over night and squeak went away! The scoop broke so I bought a nice metal one. But still overall glad I bought, we use it all day everyday! 19 month review- IT DIED!! Motor started getting VERY loud, my husband opened the back and said he could tell motor was toast. With in a few days it made a VERY loud noise and died. This machine WILL NOT LAST YOU! It makes me so sad because it was very expensive and I LOVED it while it worked. So I’m buying a cheapy $100 one because honestly none seem to last and I’ll just buy a new cheapy one every hear. Warranty is expired so this will sadly be going to a landfill

This icemaker is the queen of all queens. It’s huge, the instructions could be written with a little bit more, about the actual set up of the machine itself,, also instead of starting off on how to clean the machine, how to operate and what steps to take one at a time, writing comprehension, just saying we’re not my best subjects, and also taken into consideration being women, who went from been married iand anything with instructions my other half done everything for as long as I left home at 16 years old, going on 50!! These instructions, severely need attention,, from going t from having a man in your life, who did it all for you, two being able, to read and see each steps that being said Step1. with a detail1 as well as a clear picture showing on each step have step-by-step , but I guess they wanted you to look at the pictures and just know what you’re doing. I finally after many hours doubting myself and doughting everything around me as well as the floor and myself cause I did not hook up the hose in the back I guess the second guess myself on which one of those tubes goes where I make the wrong mistake , the directions didn’t say which hose came off and attached to the pump on the side of the icemaker where my house of water pump I undothe accidentally connect the wrong hose to the pump, causing all the water in the holding tank, ran out like crazy. Call it a pretty lucky guess after two wasted full gallons of distilled water everywhere!!The first icemakerI bought lasted about a year and a half totwo years. my next purchase was an another one an another one on Amazon, purchased it December 30 and went out within a two week timeframe. So I’m going to see my daughter in Missouri and she’s been telling me to get the GE profile. Opal, I told her she was out of her bougie mind…. after the second one broke, I was mad as hell. She paid $699 for her, but when I got on there and looked way more than what I wanted to spend, I decided to just do the purchase and get it over with, came in the mail today, our yesterday,, I was blown away.It was the best purchase I made. I love the little nugget ice, this icemaker is my prize possession, I’m going to religiously like clockwork, my opal blue. The ice queen is going to be maintenance as often as asked, i’m on a fixed income, so I am going out on Liam, and I hope to goodness I hope she treats me, stress, free, and finances free from any and all problems she Keeps the general Electric, maintenance free, and always holds up to the General Electric name and craftsmanship.. i’ll come back in about six months and give an update!! you can definitely tell by looking at this machine that you are getting nothing but the best it’s heavy duty made to last, and last not least meant to be in my kitchen.!.!.! I did a lot of research on machines for the house. I looked at multiple units, some that required a drain. I had a smaller Frigidaire but it required constantly filling the water during the day and although it claimed to make 26 lbs during the day, it was a slow and tedious process in getting to the 26 lbs. The ice also melted extremely fast even in a Yeti cup. I am extremely happy with this GE Profile and even though the ice is smaller (and in larger amounts), it lasts longer compared to the larger cubes from the Frigidaire in my Yeti. Some things to note, it does have some noise to it. But not enough to bother me and it was relatively the same as the Frigidaire unit. I did read the comments and someone mentioned scheduling it to turn on and off in the middle of the night to keep continuous ice making. I guess if it stops, it melts quit a bit. Stopping and restarting helps. I love the fact I can leave this on continuously. I do like the App feature, but rarely use it honestly but it’s a nice to have for sure. And finally, I don’t have arguments with the family of 5 on why we don’t always have ice. The side XL unit is an absolute MUST. Although we got the side unit, we STILL go through a lot of jugs of water. In the heat of Texas, of course we should be using it quite a bit. And USE DISTILLED WATER. Do your research on WHY to use Distilled. Makes a difference. Flavor, of course will be different than drinking water but we use filtered water from our refrigerator along with our Distilled Ice and scaling will be reduced significantly if at all. The beauty of this unit is that I don't have to clean as much using distilled water, I don't have to drain often, and I can leave it on constantly. Couldn’t be happier at the moment with this purchase

This is my second Opal ice maker, mostly because we love this type of ice. The first one, an Opal 1.0 with side tank, died after only 18 months. Given the price that is waaayyyy too soon. I cleaned it weekly and took great care of it so it should have lasted much longer. After some anguish I decided to but the Opal 2.0 with side tank and give it another try. But this time, I bough the warranty with it on Amazon. Once it arrived I was delighted as the ice maker worked better than the older version and made great ice. A month-and-a-half in, the "Add Water" light suddenly came on and the unit stopped working. Nothing I did would make it go away. I reached out to the warranty company who told me they woiuld do nothing because my unit should be under manufacturer's warranty. So I reached out to Opal support. After two weeks of back and forth emails asking me to try all sorts of things, the unit still isn't working. I had to demand that they replace it and only now find out the terms of the useless warranty. They will ship me a replacement unit once they place a $300 hold on my credit card which will remain until they receive the faulty unit back. And, since the unit is more than 30 days old, they will only replace it with a refurbished unit, not a new one. So, if I am lucky I will get a refurbished unit to replace my month-and-a-half old brand new one after tying up $300 on my credit card while the process plays out. This after spending nearly $800 on the unit and warranty. Buy this thing at your own risk - while it makes great ice, it is not well made and customer concern/support is non-existent.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE our GE ice maker, I’ve had this for almost a year now and I have ZERO COMPLAINTS, completely reliable! We use only purified water in it which helps with the cleaning process. It has a light that lets you know when it’s time to clean. The ice quality is ELITE 🥰 the noise level is a little loud but nothing that you can’t get use to being back ground noise. It was a little pricey but so far WORTH IT. I got mine on Black Friday so that helped some. All my friends want one and come to our house for the ice haha!

This is a must have but even with filtered water it’s NOT easy to clean. Unfortunately I’m on my second one. Won’t spend the money for another

This is my 6th ice machine at home. I put off buying the Opal because of the price, and the others lasted about a year each before dying. I've had large and small bullets and other "nugget" machines, and this is definitely the most quiet (so far) and best of the lot. That being said, while it does make nugget ice, it most certainly does NOT make "Sonic" ice. For comparison, the photo with the silver cup is from the industrial machine at work I'd buy if I had the room. It makes true scraped, extruded ice like you can get at Sonic- almost like shaved ice. Almost. The photo in the clear cup is from the Opal, which makes chopped nuggets from a frozen tube of ice. Close, but not quite the same. If the machine stays quiet and lasts more than a year (hopefully several years!), I'll be happy. EDIT: After a few weeks using only filtered water, with regular cleaning and descaling, the “cleaning” light is stuck flashing, like MANY others report. Apparently, this is a software bug GE is aware of. Annoying, but machine is otherwise working fine.

I’ve seen too many companies operate like this lately, and GE seems to be following the same playbook. I ironically bought this from Amazon — and this ice maker isn’t cheap. On the outside it looks sleek, but inside it’s completely rotten: false warnings, random stops and starts, terrifying squeals, and general unreliability. Customer service was a complete disaster. I was just a month past the one-year warranty, and the representative refused to help, offered no solutions, and eventually hung up. No accountability, no concern — just cold corporate scripts protecting GE’s profits. This appliance is all style and no substance. Expensive, flashy, and fundamentally broken. If you value your time, or money, do not buy this. GE clearly cares more about profit than quality or customer experience. Amazon too? They haven't weighed in!

WHEN THE ICE MAKER WORKS IT WAS GREAT. SUPER DISAPPOINTING THAT IT ONLY WORKED FOR ABOUT A MONTH AFTER PURCHASE. CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE. THEY EXPECT YOU TO KEEP A HUGE BOX LYING AROUND THE HOUSE FOR AN INDEFINATE PERIOD OF TIME SO THAT YOU CAN SEND IT BACK TO THEM IN ITS ORIGINAL PACKAGING SO THEY WILL HONOUR THE WARRANTY. I AM ON THE HOOK FOR 'DAMAGES' THAT MIGHT HAPPEN WHEN I AM MAILING IT BACK TO THEM TO FIX IT. IT WEIGHS ALMOST 50 POUNDS. I CAN NOT FIND ANY LOCAL PLACE TO WARRANTY IT. NO ONE FIXES SMALL APPLIANCES ANY MORE. IT IS VERY NICE LOOKING, BUT WHAT THEY ARE DOING ON THE INSIDE OF IT, IT IS SUPER UNRELIABLE. THEY ALSO SHIPPED ME A DIFFERENT PRODUCT THAN THEY DELIVERED TO ME. THE INVOICE DOESN'T MATCH THE PRODUCT. I AM TRYING TO GET THAT FIXED BEFORE I SEND THEM ANYTHING. BRUTAL CUSTOMER SERVICE.
