What material is this made of? Could I could secure it with magnets?

It is a heavy metal base with a rubber padded bottom. I don't think magnets would work with it. But then again, I cannot think of an application that might require magnets. It is very heavy (for it's size) and weighted for balance on both flat and sloped surfaces.

Is this base heavy enough to move the mic with only one hand without knocking it down?

Interesting question. The base is heavy enough to hold the mic and you definitely would want to grab it by the base to move it and you can do that with one hand. I hope that answers your question.

How can you secure the base to a wooden podium? I do not see anything on the base that shows it can be screwed into place.

This base is weighted and has a rubber backing. I does not need to be screwed into a podium. I have used this base on a 40 degree podium as well as flat table top. The weight and rubber bottom holds it perfectly in place in both situations. That is the best part of this base. It allows one to have a long necked condenser mic that is totally portable.

Will this base accept a Countrman podium mic?
