I bought the A400SMXLR combo, which combines the A400SM shock mount with the A400XLR insert. We have been using it on our church podium for close to two years. It seems flimsy at first, because the A400SM base is made of plastic and the rubber cushion is slightly squishy, but it is actually super strong. It is designed to allow you to plug a male XLR connector into the female A400XLR insert, and disconnecting the male XLR connector is a matter of giving it a hard yank. At first, we were afraid we would rip the A400XLR insert out of the A400SM base when yanking, but we were wrong. This shock mount is extremely rugged and easily withstands any amount of yanking. We have two gooseneck mics, one 12 inches and the other 18 inches, which we use with this shock mount depending on the height of the service leader who will be speaking. The 14 inch mic is a Shure CVG12BC, and the 18 inch is a Shure MX418. Both mics have male XLR bases which easily snap onto and off of the female A400XLR insert. This makes switching mics a breeze.

You will need to solder a xlr cable to the insert. It does not come with xlr fittings at each end of insert. Also calls for a 1 3/4" hole to be drilled to insert the main body of this item. Item does appear to be good quality. For the price, shure needs to add the entrance xlr fitting.

I purchased this because I could not find a shock mount for my Peavey PM 16S. This works perfectly and I didn't even have to use the insert. If you have a mic body of 3/4 in. +/- 1/32in. this should work very well. If it is much bigger than that it will still work but you'll have to use the insert. Very effective in isolating podium thumps.

It was not clear that you have to hardwire a new cable to the insert and that you can actually just use a premade cable with the shockmount without the insert. I am sure the insert does make it a little better, but I would have forgone the additional cost had I known. It has helped improve the sound quality. We used to have an issue with people touching the podium and it inducing a vibration noise in the mic and now that is gone.

This item is a shock mount with an insert terminated in an XLR connector. Taking the insert first; this is a simple tube with the XLR connector, it is necessary to remove the connector to solder a microphone cable to it. The construction is solid but let down by the absence of any form of strain relief. There is also a rubber O ring that prevents the insert from being pulled out of the mount, unfortunately it doesn’t prevent it from being pushed downwards, a second one at the top would resolve this. The mount is a tube with a flange at the top and is lined with a flexible rubber inner which is the part that provides mechanical decoupling of the microphone from the surface to which the mount is attached. Fitting requires a 44mm hole cutter but, once the hole has been made, the rest is easy. Fortunately the insert wasn’t necessary because the existing connector on the cable was a sufficiently tight fit. A brief test revealed that the mount provides good isolation of the microphone from the lectern on which it is mounted, which is the whole point. Time will tell whether the rubber inner part is sufficient robust.

Qualitative hochwertig, jedoch kann die eigentliche XLR Buchse nicht ordentlich befestigt werden. Daher zieht es die gesamte Buchse beim entfernen des Mikros raus. Dass ist sehr unvorteilhaft und es ging wieder zurück.
