A worthwhile kitchen gadget
I'll start of by saying that I'm not much of a gadget fan. For something to deserve drawer or shelf space in my kitchen it has to deliver on ease of use, quality of the task it performs and ease of cleaning. I'm a keen cook so find myself most days chopping garlic. Whilst not the most onerous task in the world I nevertheless wasn't keen on the daily garlic chopping/crushing/slicing activity. Also, I don't like smelling of garlic. So I took the unusual step of buying a gadget with only one designated use - and I'm really pleased I did. The rocker looks beautiful ( I got the all steel one) and it has turned one of my least favourite tasks into a doddle. I now start with preparing the garlic because it's so easy. Unlike other reviewers who didn't like the item I find that a few drops of olive oil over the cutting surface results in almost no bits of garlic stuck in the holes. I also find that a quick scrape out and a second going over results in an almost paste like result which is useful for recipes requiring a paste. It is also easy to prepare several large garlic cloves simultaneously as you just keep on going without having to open, close, scrape etc as with a garlic press. Cleaning is usually a tap on the chopping board, a quick rinse under the tap and a few seconds with a washing up brush if needed before being popped into the dishwasher to remove the olive oil. My mother in law, who suffers from arthritis in her hands used it when visiting and commented how much easier it was to use than a garlic press - and easier to clean. Unlike a press which requires hand strength, the rocker uses your arm strength and downward pressure which comes from your upper body. You can use the palms of your hands rather than your fingers to operate the device meaning that arthritic hands can operate it with much greater ease. All in all I would recommend this product and has already bought a couple as gifts.

Great value rocker
Excellent and sturdy. Previously had the plastic version but broke. Used this continuously for 6 months and the product is great, still working as well as it did on day 1. A bit expensive but will last. Really easy to use.

Finally..
I read reviews advising that the plastic version cracked away from the metal so I went for this all metal one and I am pleasantly surprised at how well it works. It does take a bit of pressure to squash the garlic but I hate those scissor action crushers that push the clove into small square section of the gadget, only to have half of it force its way back up the sides, so this in my opinion is far better. Cut the clove in half first, start crushing cut side up, and use a silicone chopping mat and that certainly helps. It's easy to scoop the crushed garlic off the top of the crusher, and I haven't found it difficult to clean either. The odd bit of garlic that sticks after running it under hot water comes out with the tine of a fork, or a washing up brush. I really like it, but then I hated my old crusher so much maybe I'm biased.

Pretty good
A friend of mine got one of these for a wedding present and told me to get one. I've had umpteen different styles of garlic crusher/grater/chopper gadgets over the years but never found anything that was any better than just good old hard work with a sharp knife. These are pricey but you can definitely feel the quality when you handle it. It doesn't take a great deal of effort to crush even a large fresh clove of garlic. I'm not sure if you can use it on unpeeled cloves, I haven't, I still peel the garlic and cut the woody end off, but then crush the whole thing with the garlic rocker. It crushes rather than cuts the garlic so you get all the lovely juices too. It is hard to get all the little bits of garlic out of the holes when washing up, a stiff bristle brush is the only thing that really works, even running it under the tap doesn't dislodge all of the trapped garlic. It's a tiny niggle though, and overall I'd say that it was probably the most successful garlic implement I've had to date.

Excellent garlic crusher
Had another one with plastic edge, but the plastic cracked, mainly because when I first bought it, a few years again, I ‘squashed’ instead of ‘rocked’ it. Once I worked out to rock it, I love it. Bought this one as it’s more sturdy being all stainless steel. Easy to use, and great design and so easy to clean. No faffing about trying to get the bits out, it’s effortless.

What a great idea
I have been really pleased with this garlic rocker and much prefer it to my traditional garlic press. You can rock all of the garlic through the holes without leaving behind that horrible meshed sheet that you have to pick out of a traditional press, or rerpress the bits that have ridden up the sides. It's easy to clean and most of the time any remaining bits of garlic that you haven't scooped out fall off under a running tap and only on occasion do you have to fiddle around with a fork end or knife to eject garlic stuck in a hole. The shape of the rocker means that the crushed garlic is easily held on the rocker and doesn't drop off when transporting to the wok etc, and it is easily stored in the drawer taking up little space. My only criticism is that i normally have to do one clove of galic at a time and would prefer to be a able to do two, although in this respect i guess no different from most standard garlic presses. Well made and dishwasher friendly.

Easy to clean if you use a washing up brush, but not sturdy enough (broke in half)
This is a great idea, far superior than other garlic crushers. The only thing to mention is that this can be cleaned in around 5 seconds flat using a washing up brush. A lot of the negative reviews of this product are that people are struggling to poke all the left over bits of garlic from the holes. So either get a brush to use this with, or don't buy it if you are not prepared to get one. In relation to the items quality, it eventually snapped after three and a half years. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I expect expensive kitchen equipment to last almost a lifetime, especially something that's effectively just a piece of metal. Joseph Joseph did promise to send me a new one a few weeks ago, despite being out of warranty, however it's yet to arrive. This might just be lockdown problems or perhaps they've forgotten. Nonetheless, I decided to order a different garlic rocker (the ToSSme Stainless Steel Garlic Rocker) on Amazon, and I can confirm that not only is it half the price of the Joseph Joseph, but it's easier to use, easier to clean, and looks nicer. I can't yet comment on it's durability though.

Best garlic press ever
I am an avid fan of Joseph Joseph items - I read the reviews before buying this thinking that it may not live up to expectations. I have marked difficulties with dexterity and find fine chopping a major problem. The first time I used this press was to see if it could chop my usual 4 garlic cloves with ease. I was amazed, I removed the skin from the cloves and gently "rocked" over them and found that all four chopped with ease into wonderfully small useable pieces. I ran the edge of my knife underneath the press and all the unusable remaining pieces came off with ease. I have since used it to chop garlic without removing the skin first and it poses no problems at all but I do prefer to remove the skin for my ease - there is little unusable garlic remaining. Another innovative and highly functional piece of kitchen equipment from Joseph Joseph - well worth the price - it is not expensive and will be the last type of garlic press/chopper that I buy.

Unique design makes it easy to use and extremely durable
The rubber (silicone? not sure) on the handle finally disintegrated on my old, beloved Calphalon press. I cook often enough with garlic that a garlic press is worth the investment for me. (Yes, I know I can chop it, but when you're using 5+ cloves in a recipe, that gets annoying.) This one seemed interesting and reasonably priced. I liked the idea of a press without all the hard-to-clean moving parts and crannies. This one has been a pleasant surprise. It's really sturdy and easy to use and clean. I've even been able to use it to press some ginger, something I had tried and failed to do with my old press. My one complaint is that I would really prefer it if the holes were a little smaller, maybe up to a millimeter less in diameter. (I would have made this a 4 1/2 star review, but Amazon only allows whole stars.) Even still, unless something crazy happens, I expect this will be the last garlic press I buy for my entire life. It's great, and I highly recommend it.
