Brookstone 10X/1X Natural-Light Wall Mirror

This is the best magnifying mirror I've had, and I've owned several over the last few years. The light is very bright even though I have it in a dark corner of the bathroom. Magnification is more than adequate (enough to scare me when I get a really good look at the wrinkles!). However,the mirror arrived without the mounting hardware that was supposed to be included. Whoever packed the box simply forgot to put in the small packet of screws & anchor bolts. No big deal, I thought. Called the number Brookstone gave for questions about an order. That number connected to a recording giving their store locations. There was supposedly an option to ask for other assistance. The recording told me to state the reason for my call. I tried several: order problem, shipping error, customer service, agent, representative, etc. The recording kept responding: "I don't understand that." After a few tries, the recording announced "Sorry we can't help you. Goodbye" and hung up. No option to speak to a real person. Next I tried the main product sales number. That one eventually connected me to a live human being. I told her the mirror had arrived without mounting hardware and asked her to send it. She told me I would have to return the mirror. I said there was nothing wrong with the mirror. It would be expensive and unnecessary to ship it back. All I needed was the small package of anchor bolts and screws. They would probably cost about a dollar and shipping costs would be minimal, especially compared to what it would cost to ship the mirror back and have them send a new one. She continued to insist I had to return the mirror. I continued to insist it made a lot more sense for her to simply drop the small package of hardware in the mail to me. Finally she relented and said she would do that. She said it would take about 10 days. Guess what arrived in 10 days? A letter from Brookstone telling me to return the mirror and giving me a return shipping label. At that point I gave up. Simply bought about a dollar's worth of screws & anchor bolts and installed the thing. End result is I'm very happy with the mirror. Good quality mirror, good lighting. But I hope I never have to deal with the company again. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

the light is perfect! Went on the wall so easy... my husband was out of town and I could not wait do I did it myself. The mirror is good quality. The only thing that bothers me is you can only turn the mirror one direction and I always go to turn it the wrong way. But it is a good mirror and great quality! Funny, how you don't realize how much you need something until you actually have it!

Ugh... I love this mirror so much. It's so bright (and adjustable) and the magnification is magnificent!! The big problem (besides the ginormous price) is the middle swivel. It is poorly designed, it has to hold ALL of the weight of the mirror, and it breaks after a few months. I had my dad fix it, but alas, it happened again a few months later. So sad.

I love this mirror, bright, beautiful , great magnification ! Nice mirror size. Easy to install... I can't say enough good things about it! I looked at many, many mirrors & found this to be the best . Everything in the advertisement is completely true

I have been using this mirror for about 6 weeks now and I am extremely happy with my purchase! It was quick and easy for my husband to install. It is very sturdy and looks great in my bathroom. I agree with the other reviews that the 10x magnification is a bit too much for routine use. I just use the regular side for putting on makeup and the light is nice and bright for this purpose. When I was shopping online, I could not find any dimensions for the base of this mirror. I was expecting that it would be about 4 inches, but the base is actually 6 inches in diameter. Luckily it fit on my wall...barely! Also, I wanted to comment about how "it does not extend up to 18.25 inches as advertised" that other reviewers mentioned. I did some measuring... When the arm is pulled straight out with the mirror parallel to wall (how most people would use it), it only extends about 13 inches from the wall. However, if you turn the mirror perpendicular to the wall, now the furthest point on the mirror is 18 inches from the wall. The 13-inch extension is plenty for my bathroom, but I can definitely understand how that product description can be very deceiving for some customers! The only feature of the mirror I don't like is the cord (why I didn't give this item a 5-star rating). Now that it's installed, I wish that it had a retractable cord. It doesn't bother me too much though, I would still recommend this high quality mirror.

I bought this a couple of months ago after we remodeled the master bath as a birthday gift for my wife. I just installed it while she was at work. Like others, I had done my research and decided to go with the more expensive Brookstone unit. While everyone seems to like the light, I was also influenced by prior experience with the quality of their products. Not this time. The escutcheon is a cheap stamping that flexes under the weight of the extended light. The arms are not level (and cannot be tweaked). The knuckles are loose fitting, have a raw, scratchy metal-on-metal feel and, again, cannot be adjusted. I would return it except I cut off the cord and adapted it for mounting directly to a wall box I installed during the remodel. The modifications did not cause any of the cited problems. It is simply a poorly made product that I am stuck with. What was intended as a surprise for my wife will now be an embarrassment until I feel flush enough to replace it with a unit that has the qualities that I thought I was buying this time: good design, materials, engineering and manufacture; smooth operation and a tight and substantive feel. For the time being, I can only hope that the light and the mirrors themselves live up to the other reviews.

I am very happy with this mirror. I am 46 yr old female & can't see without my reading glasses to do my makeup. This mirror is perfect for me. The 10X side is VERY strong, so if this will mess with you, get the 5X. I am able to pluck light blond eyebrows with 10X side without any problem. My BF hung this up and plugged it in within 5 mins time. I looked at reviews on Jerdon model mirrors and kept seeing everyone saying that the light was too dim....one reviewer said to get this mirror so I did, very bright light. perfect for my everyday use :-)

I love the mirror - but the bulb burned out after 3 uses. I suspect I got a repackaged product. Which is annoying. Especially since it took AGES to arrive. And now I need to wait another set of AGES for the dang bulb. I love the item. But. well. If I called for the warranty it would take even longer. a real catch-22. So - replaced the bulb and it STILL does not work. So - defective. DO not order. Too bad - as it is the perfect size & has a great amount of light - but it is crap.
