Great bonker to last a lifetime*
It's hard to find wooden tools that don't have some plastic or polymer varnish or seal on them. This one is nice, natural, unfinished wood. The handle was glued into the head very securely, I tested it and I was using a 2 lb brass mallet banging on this wooden mallet head for a while to get it off of the handle. Even then, the handle slips right in, and a firm press and a whack make it rock solid again. Initially I was miffed I couldn't find an unvarnished wooden mallet that had a through-hole head, but the solid top has functions. I use the mallet in a stabbing motion to snug heavy boards to my miter saw fence for example. With a through hole head I wouldn't want to do that. If you want that Mallet that's going to serve you well for the rest of your life in your shop or garage or wherever, I think this fits the bill perfectly. And being natural wood, you can add any sort of beeswax or tung oil finish that you want to it, you could even carve or burn a design into the side of it, go wild. *that glue will eventually fail, they all do. However the fit is so strong I don't think it would matter all that much. If you really wanted to, you could put a screw or a dowel in through the side of the mallet head and into the handle without impacting its usability at all.

Well Made
I use this for light batonning of medium to heavy Chinese-style chef's knives through appropriate material (not solidly frozen and not thick and densely boned). Head handle are made of unfinished wood, and should be treated with food-grade mineral oil or a similar conditioner prior to use.

Good for the money.
This is a descent mallet. Solid beech, not laminated wood. Only problem is the handle. Its a bit loose and the head starts to slip off when using. I don't know if it go flying but I just cut a slot in the top and wedged it. Works without issue now.

Head flew off, fixable.
Head flew off the handle after 15 minutes of basic use. The handle is connected with a slightly loose mortise and tenon joint with a dab of rubbery glue at the bottom of the mortise. The head and handle are good quality beech, so I put two saw curfs in the end of the handle, added wedges and a bunch of glue, and created a blind wedged mortise and tenon joint to put them back together. Mallet is rock solid now.

Not perfect but good for the price.
This mallet isn't 100% square however it hasn't been a problem so far and its not something I have noticed so far. It comes raw so add some lindseed oil and then a layer of wax and you are good to go! I'm not sure about the handle joint so you could put a couple of dowels through it to be sure.
